Here's last years' thread: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1411305

Unfortunately, this thread begins with bad news for the Sixers and Ben Simmons.

That's extremely unfortunate for a franchise that was hoping to hit the ground running this season. I was very excited to see him play this season, but I'm not sure can have the impact everyone was expecting if he's coming off of an injury. Just consider how slowly Jabari Parker returned to form after injuries set back his rookie season (different, much more serious injury but still wouldn't expect Simmons to be 100% this season).

On the one hand, puts far less pressure on the 76ers to figure everything out immediately this season. This should allow them to carefully discern the talent of their frontcourt logjam with Noel, Okafor, Embiid, and Saric.

On the other hand, without their best player (or most promising, since we haven't seen Simmons contribute at the NBA level yet) they're likely to enter the tank again - defeating the very purpose of hiring Colangelo (you can throw "winning" culture out the window for this season).

It sucks to say this at such a **** time for the 76ers, but this could raise the season outlook for the Nets, above the 76ers and Heat who, in light of recent news, are both a less talented than BKN + have more cause to attain a high lottery pick than win games this season

this puts them in the lead for the top pick in the draft again.

Meanwhile, a reminder that the Knicks are a bush league franchise with bush league talent

Although every once and a while a team of misfits makes noise like the jail blazers, character is a vastly underrated factor that impacts most winning franchises. Just ask the New England Patriots

The Lakers' 2017 pick is still Top 3 protected, I think. If the Lakers get a Top 3 pick, they keep it in 2017 and then automatically give their 1st round pick to the Sixers in 2018. If the Lakers don't get a Top 3 pick in 2017, it goes to the Sixers in 2017.

Given that the Lakers will continue to be one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA, they'll most likely get a Top 3 pick in 2017.

The Sixers will likely get a Top 3 pick in 2017, and then get the Lakers' 1st rd pick in 2018 (probably top 5) plus the Sixers' own 1st rd pick (probably top 3).

So I guess that means the Lakers are gonna tank again and then try their best to do well next season?

Parker has a real nice offensive package. Strong frame + his quickness/explosiveness is back; he is gonna be a problem for defenses this year

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that Allen Crabbe had a good game last night. On the good side. a good season by him would confirm Sean Marks' judgment about him; on other hand, I don't want to remember how disappointed I was when the Blazers matched on him, ... all season long.

I won't be mentioning this again, but just thought I would once.

That one hurt.

It's game 1 of the preseason. Wait at least 10-15 regular season games before really evaluating.

Warriors are just too good. Weren't they supposed to need some time to get used to being with KD?

the Warriors are gonna drop 200 on the Nets at some point this season and I won't even be mad when it happens

I know it just the pre season, but Warriors up by 50, 5 minutes into the third quarter. That's insane. Clippers don't have any excuse since their starters played.

C'mon man, you can't knock it- we are literally getting to witness one of the greatest basketball teams ever assembled. Every organization aspires to develop its players, culture, and system, become contenders, and then sign the big name free agent.

Going back in NBA history is riddled with questions, like what if the Pistons drafted Melo instead of Milicic and became a dynasty...what if Shaq stayed in Orlando and Penny didn't get injured...what if Len Bias joined the established Celtics. We are literally getting the chance to watch one of those ideal scenarios play out, where the team just fits perfectly in every way, and they've become the biggest challenge to the greatest NBA player of our era - Warriors vs Cavs is now Showtime Lakers vs Celtics level! Just enjoy the show man

No. I don't want to see the same 2 teams every year, gets boring after a while. Not really interested in super teams, my opinion. I guess you like seeing ESPN and other networks talk about the Warriors and Cavs all day long.

I just enjoy good basketball. It's better than watching Lebron stomp on everyone in the playoffs every year. In the NBA, there are 2-4 contenders that can reach 40 wins before 20 losses, a couple of window dressing teams, like the Hawks, who manage to put together a decent regular season only to get dismantled in the playoffs, and about 20 teams with no chance to do anything significant. In a sport that is usually dominated by a small handful of elite teams, you might as well root for the best competition possible between the top teams.

Warriors without KD - win 73 games

Cavs without Lebron - questionable to make the playoffs

It's not really fair, is it...
