Woj: Nets sign Spencer Dinwiddle to 3 Year Deal

I can already tell this was Kenny's call. This kid can pass. He's only 23.

I was a big Dinwiddie fan due to his length and shooting range (although the latter never really fully transferred from his college game to the NBA) but the fact that old man Steve Blake, while being as terrible as he was, kept Dinwiddie out of our rotation last season says a lot.

Spencer has been playing well in the D-League though and may have turned a corner so hopefully he's ready to compete for a rotation spot this time around.

We loved him, and a lot of Bulls fans would argue that he's a better player than both Canaan and Jerian Grant. We were hoping he was going under the radar and we had him up our sleeve, but alas, you guys picked him up.

He doesn't have much of a 3 ball but he's good inside the arc, obviously good size for both ends of the floor and he's a passable athlete in every way. Runs the offense well also.

As for how he fits in to your current roster, with Lin back, I definitely think he has the makings to grab the backup spot. I haven't seen much of Whitehead but I did a lot of scouting on him before the draft and he has more potential than Dinwiddie, imo, but Dinwiddie will bring a much more polished 'PG' skill-set and maturity that Whitehead doesn't currently possess.

I think he's better than he was in Detroit, and in the context of the league, I think he can become a high level backup, especially if his 3 ball starts to translate.

I think this a really smart buy low option for Marks. This kid clearly has talent and has an amazing body that fit the mold we're building here. The PG depth was very questionable and he helps patch that up. Also love that he jumped on picking him up during this down time so he can pick up some of our plays, seeing as he'll get some burn until Lin is back. Marks had to see that Yogi and Foye were not working as ball handlers and we needed someone who could handle and ball and switch on D.

Love to see what he can do here. So far Marks has shown an amazing eye for talent.

if there's so much luv why wasn't he brought on sooner by any other team???

Not discounting anything, wish him the best but its funny, for me, that once a prospect like him is sign, the praises and accolades come out of the woodwork lol.....

here's for the best!

He seems like a less athletic version of Tyler Johnson and more of a true point. Obviously they're likely hoping that his 3 point shot is showing signs of improvement (he had 2 40%+ years in college), that will likely be 1 of the main factors in determining whether or not he's a capable backup point with size or someone who can be more of a 6th man type like Livingston and Tyler Johnson. Good roll of the dice and I like that they added the option years.

He was at one point considered to be a 1st round talent. I remember most mocks had him in the 20s of the first round. Tore his ACL and fell into the second round of the draft to Detroit.

He got an opportunity with Detroit but didn't get consistent minutes because Jennings returned from the achilles tear. He was traded to Chicago to make room for the Pistons new FAs. Chicago had plans for him until they signed Wade and Rondo. I think the Bulls thought they could stash him on their D-League team and nobody would've jumped at him immediately.

He's definitely a player. Remains to be seen how much of a player he can be at this level but he's definitely a talented guard. He's only 23.

Just development, don't expect much until next season, or next next season.

So he's the replacement for Vasquez I guess?

Tall PG.

Could Vasquez be around to help?

We're not going to have a locker room with nothing but young kids. That's counter productive.

The more tape I watch, the more I can see what Marks is seeing here. This dude knows how to dish the damn ball. Very excited to see what he can do with ample opportunity

Now we have Lin, Whitehead, LeVert, and Dinwiddie as ball handlers, with Kilpatrick as the emergency handler.

We are very young, but there's upside.

I think now though, we will definitely need to get something done in free agency. we need veteran talent to supplement these kids.

It's not always about on court stuff.

Ask the Sixers how it worked with a locker room of young guys. You want to have vets that have been through the grind of NBA seasons to help with the development of the younger players.

Dinwidee (from now on I'm calling him SD) and Lin practiced today! I like the acquisition of SD and think he'll be a good backup. With LeVert, Lin and SD along with the improving team I think they're going to shock a lot of people. Just stay healthy please!
