Official Timofey Mozgov Thread

Post#1 » by Prokorov » Wed Jun 21, 2017 2:29 am

I know he is just looked at as a terrible contract but lets give this dude a chance. he was a big part of a finals team and isnt some useless player on the floor. he does alot well.

11 points 7 rebounds 19 PER 62TS% just 2 years ago on cleveland in just 25 minutes.

Ehh. He's 31 and has had some injury problems plus has a bad contract.

On the positive side he's a solid big when healthy.

He's a fine backup center, nothing more. Coming off a poor season last year for the Lakers, I hope he doesn't decline into a player not even good enough for backup minutes on a bad team.

I'm hoping he can be a solid defensive presence along the lines of what Booker brought last year. Ideally that's the bench frontcourt and Marks brings in a young starter at the 4 or the 5.

I remember his days with the Knicks. I hope he can get motivated returning to the big Apple.

He's a really productive center when motivated. He was a very good player with Denver as well.

He'll be a serviceable player for us and a good situational big body to have to supplement what we hope is the young, athletic center that we draft this week.

Mentoring the center(with scrimmage games) that Nets will get at the draft is a useful role for Mozgov.

Mozgov will set bone crunching screens and scream towards the hoop looking to dunk anything sent his way.

He's gonna get a career revitalization playing with Lin. He's finally gonna play with a PnR maestro to get him some easy buckets and thus opening the court for everyone else as defenses collapse to stop this basic but brutally effective play. Then we have shooters like DLo and Levert ready to pull off Lin penetration/dishes or attack closeouts and causes chaos. DLo and Levert can also get in on the PnR action with Mozgov or even each other. Having all the wings able to set good hard screens to free each other up will be utterly invaluable.

Defensively Mozgov is the typical defensive paint protector. He's got good mobility for his size but he wont be able to instant switch off and hedge like the true elite defensive bigs in the league. However it'll be night and day his defensive impact compared to BroLo. Mozgov wont solve all the problems on D but hopefully he'll be decent enough until a kid can be drafted and groomed to replace him.

Is he grossly over paid? Absolutely, but at least he does things u want bigs to do. Play inside and bang like a mofo.

Unless I missed out on some rumors, I don't think a lack of motivation is what has made him have less impact; it's the combined effect of his injuries beginning to pile up and the league moving away from interior play with more dynamic guards looking to attack slower bigs.

He looked pretty good defending Lopez and getting after it on the offensive boards in that highlight from last year. He'll be a useful player in matchups when teams with centers go big. Otherwise I'm sure we'll see a lot of RHJ, Booker, and whatever other bigs we add the rest of the offseason. I'd imagine adding another starting caliber forward is at the top of Marks' to do list.

Mozgov has a hard time catching the ball sometimes, and sometimes misses huge dunks. And defensively he won't be a rim protector, but he will always rotate at the right spot at the right time. He also has a very very good midrange shot, and he says he could shoot threes (even though we never ever seen him take any). He's a good player, but he will never ever deserve the contract he got.

Yea, he did indeed seem to have been infected with butterfingers last year. Hopefully for himself and the Nets he's solved that little problem. He's gonna get plenty of dumpoff from wing penetration so he needs to be ready to catch and hammer down.
