I'm amazed at how quickly He's blossomed. Going into the season, I had no expectations for him at all and wanted him to mostly play in the GLeague this year. Then the first few games I thought he was still just too raw to be on the court. Now he's the best part about Net games.

the best part is that when dude tried to dunk on Allen in retaliation Jarrett fouled the hell out of him to prevent the dunk

I've seen the Fro's dunk on Lauri about 1000 times and still makes me jump around... that was a hammer!

Safe to say here that both teams made excellent picks, but Allen gives the Nets a legitimate modern day center with frightening upside. this kid is showing off footwork that I had no idea that he had. I don't see Tyson chandler comparisons at all. Allen has a way softer touch, has shown flashes of 3pt range and some moves.

His movement after the screen and away from the ball is getting really good. its come to a point now where you can see him calling for the ball when he's wide open. compare this to November when he was fumbling passes and what not.

Shoot I got caught on TV cursing when they picked Allen over OG, but boy do I regret that everyday. I wanted OG because having 6'7 / 6'8 guys that can switch everything is necessary in today's league. I'm praying that Marks is somehow able to move up and draft Miles Bridges

It's not just his incredible development and skills, it's also his demeanor and poise.

I think that you're reaching a bit since Duncan was skilled more offensively coming out of college.

that being said. Allen is showing a 2 way player skillset

Yea pump the breaks on the duncan comparison.

Duncan was one of the best players in ACC history. 20/14 with 4 blocks a game and national player of the year. there was a reason he went #1 overall.

Asa ROOKIE he avaeraged 21 points 12 rebounds 2.5 blocks, had a 23 PER and 58TS% and was an allstar

as a rookie, duncan was much better then allen defensively and worlds better offensively

i love allen, but duncan was one of the best ever in the ACC and one of the best rookie bigs of all time.

Stylistically i dont see it either. duncan was a great ball handler andone of the strongest bigs around. he bullied guys down low and was automatic on that 4-8 foot bank shot.

To be fair, Duncan did all of that as a 22yo college senior

Russell made some great passes to him too out of the double team for the dunk of the year.

Yes this feels like a glimpse of the future

Dinwiddie - the intelligent no look passes and lobs
Russell - the brilliant bounce passes in traffic
LeVert - the unreal wrap around passes that bend space and time

Heading into March and Allen has the highest ORTG on the team - and it's not really close:

1. Allen (121)
2. Dinwiddie (115)
3. Harris (114)
T-4. RHJ (108)
T-4. DMC (108)
6. Crabbe (104)
7. LeVert (100)
8. DLo (96)
9. Acy (94)

Actually kind of concerning how poorly Crabbe and DLo are doing by that metric, but that's for another thread. On to DRTG, where the rookie is *also* leading:

T-1. Allen (108)
T-1. RHJ (108)
3. LeVert (109)
T-4. Acy (110)
T-4. DMC (110)
T-6. DLo (111)
T-6. Crabbe (111)
T-8. Harris (112)
T-8. Dinwiddie (112)

I really don't know anyone who was expecting him to contribute this much this early. He's 19.

I agree having guys that can switch everything is a must.

But Allen is looking like he can become a dominant rolling/defensive center. in a conference in the post Lebron NBA that will have The Greek Freak, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons becoming major threats, along with Kyrie Irving and his young athletic wings in Boston, we will need Allen to be a rim deterrent.

I would toss that number out on Russell. he struggled pretty hard coming off of injury. the last few games he's been way better than that number shows.

Crabbe as well.

at 19 he is already one of the more polished roll bigmen in the league. no wasted motion, no arc on his roll, just a straight b-line to the hoop... and he doesnt rush it. holds his screens, steady, patient, then straight hard roll.

last 20 games he looks much more like the guy at texas, comfortable, confident, and aggressive in the paint.

Add some explosiveness to his leaping with the training staff and add some muscle and dude is gonna be a force.

it is also remarkable that he went from 55% FTs on 5 FTA a game last year to shooting it at nearly 80% and looking automatic at the line

Allen leads the nets in:

FG%
TS%
PER
Reb/36
blocks
RPM
DRPM

Just wait until he is capable of giving us 28+ quality minutes and adds some explosiveness to his leaping ability and some bulk.

As a starter:

14 games:

12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 70 TS% 84% FT
