We reached 100+ pages in the 2nd offseason thread. Let's keep it going here!

i love that as a young core.

Same. That's why I'm all in favor of acquiring this dude.

I'm not sure how people are saying this guy doesn't "fit". He is a 3 and D type with room to improve under a staff that focuses on player improvement.

dude... once is an accident, 4 times is a pattern... marks has the basketball gods looking out for him. even when he offers bad deals they never stick

dude dodges bullets like Spider-Man  i dunno if that's a good thing or not

I guess in the games where he gets big minutes, he thinks he's Steph Curry with those 7.2 3PA.

I think Kenny would get him to calm down and see that he can be so much better if he just played a bit smarter.

Yeah... with all the info we have now i still dont get why people think Allen Crabbe is some elite three point shooter and KCP is some weak shooter.

If KCP took 97% of his threes on catch and shoot like crabbe instead of 78% and took 3 attempts a game instead of 6 his percentage would be MUCH higher...

and this isnt just all speculation...on catch an shoot corner threes KCP shot 46.7%

on the nets he wont be the primary ball handler. maybe not one of the top 2-3 ball handlers (lin, Dlo, levert). he will likely have alot fewer off the dribble threes (we take very few as a team outside of lin transition pull ups) and more on the catch. he could easily see his 3 point percentage go to 37-38+ just by taking fewer 3's off the dribble.

Agreed. 37% or better on high volume shooting is very good.

Another thing... detroit is AWFUL at developing talent. drummond, Harris, Johnson, KCP... none of those guys improved under SVG. i think we could get alot more out of him then detroit did

Yeah, I don't know what's going on there. I expected Stanley Johnson to have grown a lot in his time in the NBA. He had the chops to be an elite defender coming out of the draft. I think he has the versatility to become a very good offensive player over the course of a few years.

Sidenote:

This board has gained a lot of activity over the past two offseasons after signing Lin last year and now after trading for D'Angelo. The Nets train is gaining some serious steam. I don't know where to, but at least we're going somewhere! All aboard...

This time tomorrow we could be hearing about the details of a KCP to the nets deal....

man if we can get him for something like 4/72 thats a great offseason from marks.

No Deliverance dueling banjos riff?

I agree though, if we can snag him for something like 4/60 to 4/75, this would be a great score.

We need to get this guy. Can you imagine him, LeVert, and RHJ swarming on defense?

And for less money than Porter. I run LeVert at 3 and let him take the lumps. Russell/KCP/LeVert can grow into something nice.

agree. Stinks we'll miss on Porter, who I thought was the better fit (money aside). But I'm excited about KCP. If we develop this core of Russ/KCP/Levert, that could be potent in years to come

This is why I was so pissed we passed on OG, and why I think its so important to bring back KJ. You can never have too many of those guys in your arsenal. If we can have one of KCP/LeVert/RHJ/KJ on the floor at all times....there's no letting up on the perimeter.

If we do sign KCP resigning KJ would be important. Its cheap, but KJ can be thrown in so KCP can rest, and the defense wouldn't miss a beat.

But passing on OG... That's gonna backfire oneday

The dude just screams late bloomer to me. His skill set works perfectly with what we're trying to do now with Russ, Rondae, Afro and Caris.

We've been plotting on him for nearly a year. I think Kenny has a great interest in developing him into the same kind of player that Carroll was before he went Toronto and became inefficient (no coincidence).

I think the benefits of Allen's upside will offset that. We need a modern center that can move, defend, and finish.

his ups are pretty deceptive too, some of those dunks were straight hammer thrown downs.

I'm good with KCP at 4yr / $56m. People seem to think that the Nets system can improve his numbers.

I'm still concerned that over 4 full years in the NBA playing heavy minutes, KCP shot 39.6%, 40.1%, 42.0%, and 39.9% and his college numbers are similar. And as a 6'5" guard, per36, he averages only 3.6 rebs and 1.9 asts, which would be worse per36 numbers than any other guard on the Nets last season. Even a 6'1" guard like Patrick Beverley averaged 5.1 rebs and 4.3 asts per36.

But who knows, maybe Kenny will turn KCP into a 43/37/82 shooter, which would be great.

I think the Nets system and staff can improve him. He has plenty of room to grow.

He's better than any other player on this team outside of Lin, Russell, and LeVert. There's really no debate about what we need to do now that this guy is free and clear.

40% FG really isnt all that bad when half your shots are threes. his TS% and eFG% are much more telling. not great, but not as articially poor looking as his FG%

he shot 52.5% from two and 35% from three. those are both solid.

He is better then levert and just 2 years older coming from a place that is terrible developing guys

You said the same thing about D-Lo! When you have D-Lo shooting 52% TS and KCP shooting 52% TS and RHJ as a PF shooting 52% TS, that's not looking so good.

This being said, I saw how Kemba Walker had 4 poor shooting years and then just blossomed.

What's simultaneously concerning but encouraging is he shoots such a poor overall percentage, both overall and from deep, but with such a solid consistent form, great elevation and a lightning quick release.

I'm with Roy Tarpley though, 4 years in a row of inefficiency and bad raw percentages raise my eyebrow.

I'd be excited to get him though, but I'll temper that til I see his contract. Sure we need to take risks, but it will be gross if he somehow gets max or anywhere close to it.

There should be a summer league thread...
Never mind, found it.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

this dude is determined and pissed off. he's got an edge.

that's exactly what we need. all he has to do is play hard, be humbled enough to be coached through rough spots, and be aggressive and he'll be fine. the talent is there.

i'm not even worried about this kid tbh.

I also like the fact that he is out there with his teammates. these guys all need to push each other.

My gut fears that consequences of Russell blossoming into a true mainstream 'star' is that he will continue to be polarized and compared to Lonzo Ball and will always be nitpicked for everything he does. Similar to Carmelo.
