NBA Front Office Show: Nets offseason review

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Fri Aug 4, 2017 5:11 pm

Hi Nets friends!

On my podcast, NBA Front Office, we covered the Nets offseason. You can find it at the link below or in your favorite podcast player:

https://www.almightyballer.com/nba-front-office-ep-17-brooklyn-netscharlotte-hornets-offseason-review/

I promise you that we didn't spend an hour dumping on the Nets. Both my co-host, Pete Toal, and I are higher on the Nets and think Sean Marks has done a wonderful job rebuilding. Especially considering there wasn't a whole lot to rebuild with when he started!

We also cover the Hornets if you want to stick around for that. If you enjoy the show, would love it if you can give us a rating and review afterwards. And if you would tell a friend. If you don't enjoy, let me know what you do and don't like!

Thanks!

They spent way too long to get into important issues. 10 minutes on Foye, Goodwin, and Hamilton. Really? Only 2 or 3 minutes on Brook Lopez?

But once they got into the Nets acquisitions, it was really interesting.. Liked their take on Russell.. saw him as combo 2 .guard. Better than as PG. Slow, doesn't have first step to get by defenders as
PGs needs to do. Emphasized that DAR needs to learn how to get all the way to the basket and score. But thought DAR could blossom this year.

Said smth really perceptive about situation on LA. Lot of good young players - sort of a struggle about Who was going to be the man in LA? In BKN, DLo Doesn't have to push for his role, and he can develop at his own speed -- whether it be this year or next year

Mozgov - He is not complete garbage -- just overpaid. Even last year, he can Play defense, rebound, block some shots. Make a few points inside. Mozgov could definitely stretch floor out to 18 feet. Maybe even 3 PT line. They both agreed it is a good pick up for Nets Expect him to come back in a big way this year.

Jarrett Allen
No one is ready to play defense as rookie , that's most players. Amd if they are good at defense their offense is abysmal.

Not surprised to see a lot of JAllen by late January amd early Feb - not surprised if split time with Moz down the stretch

He brings a fluidity to his game - wide frame and big wingspan . Doesn't always have best instincts but young. Alley oops , transition dunks
Good offensive player.

Atkinson doe a terrific job last year. Lot of fun to watch. Even though terrible,

Intricate lineups - helped guys work on areas they were not comfortable
Team oozse with potential amd this is because of Kenny Atkinson.

Carroll - more of a veteran. Transitions to more stretch power forward. At Hawks, did well. will see uptick in production. Intangibles for defense. Expect him to start at PF..

ALlen Crabbe - fits right with what they wamt to do offensively. One of them was a huge fan of AC

Elite 3 PT shooting , knock is that he is inconsistent . Will have more consistent role throughout season, he is actually a decent defender. Emergence in ACs game in BKN. He's a lot better than a lot of people know.

Really good - ppl will realize how good. People will realize the things he can't do are not important. Ability to play off the ball with ball dominant guards - underappreciated skill. Elite 3D guy -- Expect Nets to get better defensive contribution from Crabbe than Porter down the line ,!!

Huge year for Caris LeVert. They thought he would start over Crabbe - although Crabbe might close

Otto Porter - Nets clearly want to
Collect good players, don't just sit on cap space

Yakuba Outtara - athletic, decent shooter. - grew up in France
Jake Wiley - power wingesque - run transition, rebounds - perfect to stash in G League

They thought Carroll would start over RHJ bc of shooting

Yes, I agree that RHJ might get moved.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.
