The Official Allen Crabbe Thread

Post#1 » by Paradise » Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:42 pm

Allen Crabbe is flanked by kids at the Brooklyn Nets Basketball Academy, all eager to meet the newest Net and one of the NBA's best three-point shooters. Questions are asked, selfies are sought and the kids are trying to impress him by showing off their skills.

He's only been in New York about three weeks and a Net for about four after being acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers on July 25, but he's very popular in this room. The camp is part of his introduction to the city and the fan base, as he settles into his new life with the Nets.

But Crabbe is here to work and that's what he's been doing with his time in Brooklyn. The 25-year-old's a naturally-gifted shooter, hitting 44% of his three-pointers last season, the second-highest percentage in the NBA, so he's devoting himself to rounding out his game.

"Mainly it's just getting my body stronger, putting on weight," Crabbe said. "Trying to sharpen up on my handling and all that stuff because it's definitely going to be a bigger role for me over here in Brooklyn. I'm going to be able to show a lot more and display a lot of my skill set with my team."

If Crab's gonna start at the 3, he needs to bulk up

It'd be nice if he could take advantage of his natural ability in lateral movements to improve his D.

I'm still hyped we got him. He was my #1 target last year in FA so signing him then having Portland match was a nutshot for me.

I think Crabbe is gonna prove himself to be more than just a 3pt shooter. Also interested to see what his defense is actually like, as we've literally heard everything from "bottom 5 defender" to "defensive stopper".

I'm stoked. I'm telling you, we're going to turn more than a few heads this season and will be one of the most entertaining teams to watch on a nightly basis, win or lose.

“I talked to [Atkinson] last year, when the whole offer sheet went down,” Crabbe said. “He spoke about incorporating me into the team. I definitely understand the defense and just the new system. I’m just really excited to start training camp and the season, so it’s going to be a fun year.”

Crabbe's into his fashion, as evidenced by his social media accounts, so he's drawn to Soho and 5th Ave.,

Wow, so many fashionable guys on the team.

LVJ talked about Soho, looks like Lin, DRuss, DMC are into it as well

If he's truly a defensive stopper, this team is contending for the playoffs.

Any word or sighting of Crabbe? I thought I saw LeVert on sidelines last night but didn't spot AC.

Edit - 3 hours ago - w/ LeVert. With caption "Coming soon .."

“Just watching the first two preseason games, watching all the shots, watching how this offense flows, it’s the perfect system for me,” he said after the game. “I just came in with confidence. Like I said, it’s a different feel here. They’re telling you to do more, to shoot more, it’s like the ultimate green light. I’m out there playing basketball just freely. Not thinking about anything. Just letting the game come to me.”

“We often talk about system fit,” said Atkinson post-game. “We targeted Allen and there was a reason. Tonight was a good start. It was exactly what we expected.”

His defense seems to be ok, once he came in he had 2 steals, he knows how to use his length. He can also shoot off the dribble and off screens. He is more than just a spot up shooter.

This is not a specific shot at anyone because I myself made comments last year that there wasn't much difference between Harris and Crabbe, but last night's first look went a long way towards putting that notion to rest. Forget the shooting. His length and athleticism, especially his quickness, is a lot better. Now add in the shooting and it's easy to see what the Nets saw in the first place. He has prime-Korver potential.

Did he get overpaid? In all likelihood yes. He is probably not $75M better than Harris. But Portland absorbing 25% of that along with Nicholson makes it much better to get him a year later than expected.

I think it'll eventually become more and more obvious that its our system. Good shooters like Harris and Acy look like Great shooters, and Great shooters like Crabbe look elite.

Crabbe's gonna ball out in our offense.

Despite a great shooting night in his first preseason action I still stand by that there is no much that seperates him from joe harris. I can see why those he havent seen much of crabbe would feel otherwised based on last night. but i saw large portions/full games of about 30-40 games for the blazers last year, specifically to watch crabbe.

If he can maintain 42-45% from three on increased volume, that will go a long way. We will have to see on that. he looked engaged on D, we will need to see if that continues over 25+ minutes 82 games and not vs. the knicks in preseason.

Harris shot the ball pretty well this preseason himself.

I dont think anyone can say Crabbe is worth 17 million more then harris. but thats not my point. i dont think he is worth twice what harris makes let alone 10 times.

That said, im not goign to flood the game threads or here with that as my issue is not with crabbe it is with marks. i love crabbe as a fit on this team. i just dont like him being our highest paid player who is being paid like an all star and eating up a huge chunk of our cap space to be here. and i also felt like we should have gotten a first rounder for taking that contract off of portlans hands and bailing them out like we did.

but im all in on supporting crabbe while he is here.
