Possible Rotation

Post#1 » by Lorenzomax7 » Sun Oct 8, 2017 4:21 pm

Two more games to go. I'm still trying to figure it out. The 2nd half arrangement is still a mess to me tbh. I can feel like it is really a head-scratching problem for the coach. :banghead:

Btw, I never meant to say D'Lo is a bench player. I just said he is gonna lead the bench because this is what the coach wants:

“I’m not gonna say that’s definitely how it’s gonna play out, but in my mind, keeping D’Angelo or Jeremy at the point pretty much the whole game.”

Backcourt(ball handlers): Russell, Lin, LeVert, Dinwiddie
Wings: Carroll, Crabbe, Harris
PF: RHJ, Acy
Bigs: Mozgov, Booker, Allen

I can see 11 guys playing per night, with Harris and Allen getting the least mins to start the season. no one else will play barring injury.

Lotz of tough decisions. So many variables. Too damned tough to predict.

I'd like it if Kenny tries a long rotation with fresh legs, break-neck pace and ferocious hustle all game long.

Maybe play the third string for a little more than 5 mins per?

So we have seen

Lin - Russell - DMC - RHJ - Mozgov

Lin or DLo - Dinwiddie - Harris (-> Crabbe) - Acy - Booker

Lin- Skil (-> LeVert) - DMC - RHJ - Jarrett Allen

Dinwiddie - DLo - Harris (-> Crabbe) - Booker/Acy - Mozgov

The above are some of combinations I remember seeing - although I might be off on last one... and I know there were others I missed

The easiest thing for KA to do would be to drop Whitehead and Zeller, and replace Skil and Harris with LeVert and Crabbe. Keep Acy because he provides some much needed toughness to rotation.

For this game, I would leave DMC in starting lineup but have Crabbe be the first sub off bench and have the substitution happen early

The interesting one to watch imo is Harris.

I think there's going to be a good amount of tinkering game to game, especially at the beginning of the season. The ultimate rotation will shake out around whichever guys step up and lock down the main roles. Once that happens there will be a cascading effect around those guys minutes. Russell, Crabbe, and Lin are going to get the first crack at "big minutes". Everything else will have a ripple effect from there depending on how those guys do.

you are thinking about it the wrong way. kenny isnt worried about getting guys minutes he worries about gettingg guys games.

he will get guys minutes by shuffling them in and out of the rotation like last year and also player development will dictate the rotation to an extent as well.

i think we saw tonite what the rotation should look like in the first half with guys like harris, dinwiddie, acy, being shuffled in and out with whitehead, kilpatrick, and zeller

I don't think IW, SKil and Tyler will get any minutes on the opening night if the score is close enough.

It is a little weird. So Kenny wants D’Angelo or Jeremy at the point pretty much the whole game, but with so many guards and the fast paced system both are likely to play about 30 minutes a game. If you want at least one of them on the court all the time for 48 minutes, they will only overlap for 12 minutes, which I think is impossible. There should be at least half a quarter when neither will be on the court.

i wonder if KA is going to pull a POP and rest the starters for full games against unwinnable games like back2back vs warriors.

I think there's a new rule forbidding resting. Maybe fake injuries is OK but not like all starters kinda thing.

there will be rest days I assume, but not whole scale rest. i think the NBA is right to crack down on that, especially on those national games on ABC. I love how people killed us for resting guys on the last game of the season but said nothing when The Cavs and Spurs pulled that garbage on a mid season saturday night national game.

Why is it impossible? 4-6 to start the game, 6 to end the game, and not much in between. I do agree there may be a few minutes where Dinwiddie & Levert are the 2 ballhandlers in the game, likely for a quick blow before crunch time, but I wouldn't be surprised to almost see us approach hockey style line changes. You'll have groups of 3 to 4 players that spend a lot of time together on the court. For example, Mozgov on the court mostly with RHJ, Crabbe & one of the PGs. Allen alongside Carroll, LeVert & the other PG.

If he wants to go 11, I wonder if the extra guy will be a wing (Harris or Kilpatrick) or getting J.Allen minutes?

Seems these 10 are a lock...

Lin / Dinwiddie
Russell / LeVert
Crabbe / DMC
RHJ / Acy
Mozgov / Booker

Don't they have to start the 3rd quarter together?

they wont get minutes either way. that was my point. kenny doesn believe in garbage time. he wants guys to get bigger meaningful minutes. at somepoint zeller/skil/whitehead will be in the rotation for a 1-3 week stretch where harris/acy/dinwiddie will sit and get DNPs

I would be shocked if Acy and Dinwiddie get benched at any point in the season.

I don't think Whitehead gets rotational minutes this year unless someone gets injured, same can probably be said for Kilpatrick. There will definitely be DNPs, even if it's just minor sprains or resting older guys on back to backs. But unless Whitehead really does something spectacular in practice, I don't see him knocking Harris nor Dinwiddie off the depth chart and I can't imagine Atkinson just swapping Zeller/Skil/Whitehead in front of Harris/Acy/Dinwiddie.

In all likelihood, even Harris doesn't play and Allen gets the nod at 11th man because we're running a pace and space system again with Mozgov being a guy who can easily tire out at more than 24 minutes. Unless D Carroll takes a chunk of playing time at PF, I see Allen getting some time backing up Moz rather than Booker. Also personally, I'd rather develop Allen than Harris/Whitehead/Skil at this point.

Perhaps be flexible about it? Play guys according to matchups, sometimes go 10, sometimes 12.

With Lin or Russell always on the court, I think Kenny should probably give Dinwinddie minutes to Crabbe/Harris/LeVert since there's a huge log-jam for minutes for the SG/SF position....I don't see how you can squeeze enough minutes for all these guys + dinwinddie who is a PG alongside DLo/Lin.
