Crabbe: Our biggest thing this year is just playing defense,” Crabbe said. “We keep preaching it but we’ve got to make improvements over there, man, because we gave up 120 again. Individually and collectively that’s one of the main things we have to do.”
“Maybe a little bit of everything, concentration, principles. Sometimes if you help too much on one play you may not do it the next play, because you gave up a basket the last time. But we’ve just got to trust it, honestly. We just have to get better defensively overall, collectively and individually.”

Once again, the Nets have two days rest and will face a team on the back end of a back-to-back. Advantage Nets?
KA had the team practice the basics today. We may see them playing they way they did early in the season.

^if you purchased call of duty this weekend, you'll get the reference

I agree, they need to play defense, gets stops, protect the defensive glass and get the ball moving in transition like we did in the first few games. that's how we'll get the offense going again...its hard to win games when you're hemorrhaging points and your offense has to always go up against a set defense.
that being said, no Allen, Booker may be out. Mozgov plays so soft. Zeller just isn't good. This is the real issue. Are we going to force RHJ to really have to defend centers all night as our only means of interior defense? that's not going to stop the lay ups from the penetrating perimeter guys.
this is a personnel issue at the moment. we need Allen back badly. I think that Marks really needs to consider calling the Knicks about Kyle O'Quinn's availability.

Late game... ugh. Can't do it anymore with kids.
Hope to get in at least a half. If it looks good then maybe I'll trudge through at the expense of sleep.

no way!
wins only halt development. That's not what we're about.
Putting our players in a position to win can only happen when they are ready to win the games. Right now, we're here to improve and develop skills that may or may not help our team in the future. There's a plan in place, trust the process.

Might throw blacktape on my TV so I can't pay attention to the score. As long as we try hard for a quarter or two, I'm happy. Even competing with the veteran Suns on the 2nd half of a back to back would make for an EXCELLENT game.

"I just try to take good shots and, like I said, pretty much make the right decision." - Harden, after 56 point , 12 assist game
Want to see team make better decisions and get back in flow of their offense today
They stumbled badly last few games but actually only teams they've lost to who had under .500 records are Lakers and Suns. I'm fine with the losses if it taught them they can't win with ISO and hero ball

I was frustrated the entire last game so didn't post in the game thread but Nets have gotten stop those iso-bailout type shots with little ball movement when there's plenty of clock left. I saw how the Nets would sometimes start to panic and get into a period of 3-4 possessions of terrible shots. We really need an additional ball handler to close out games, since we basically fall apart if Russel is off in the fourth.

Likely loss playing vs another team that likes to run on the road. Suns have been playing well as of late also.
looking for Crabbe/RHJ/Carrolle to build of last game Caris to look to play his way out of his struggles. hopefully we keep getting these strong efforts from the team. encouraging start so far from such a young group.

We need to move the ball. I don't mind wide open threes. What I don't like is iso with no ball movement. get the defense shifting and create some lanes and openings. There's no reason why Allen Crabbe should be taking threes under duress every damn time he gets the ball. We've got three people that can handle the ball in a half court set:
Russell, Dinwiddie, LeVert. All three should be looking to get guys shots.
We need to start utilizing Russell in the post.

We need other guys to create more offense. Crabbe needs to expand his role beyond jump shooting. he is the highest paid player on this team. he cant just take whats there and settle for low output if he isnt getting jumpshots created for him.
Levert/dinwiddie/russell wont always have 2 of them on the floor. Carrolle, RHJ, booker need to create some offense as well. although that group has been ok they need to still develop more offensively

Realistically speaking this season is just another throwaway season again. The most important thing is to let the kids play that way we can see who is worth keeping long term. Guys like Russell, Levert, Dinwiddie, RHJ, Allen, Crabbe, IW, etc should be given plenty of time. Next season when we control our pick again is year zero. Then we can truly begin the rebuild and hopefully suck bad enough to get a few high picks during the next 3-5 years. Maybe the process speeds up if one or two of our current young players explode and reach their potential but as of now we need to focus on getting more elite level talent. Injuries really wrecked another season in terms of W/Ls unfortunately.

What's killing us is lack of quality bigs and the loss of Lin. Lin took the pressure off of Levert and Russell and was a leader and arguably our best player coming in. Now the kids have to sink or swim but that's just life. Mozgov and Zeller are negatives on the floor. Booker and Acy are great at bringing energy off the bench but they lack size. The 'Fro is injured and 19 years old.
Offensively we can clean things up but it's not bad considering the amount of new players this season... our biggest issue is defense.

RHJ and Carroll have both been aggressive offensively imo, Carroll looks to score and has made some big plays late in games to keep us in it. I agree 100%. Crabbe needs to be assertive. we need 20pt 3 and D Crabbe, not 7 pts and barely noticeable Crabbe. He needs to be pushed to become a scorer. his feet should be constantly moving on offense.
