After what happened in the last thread, NyCeEvO and I are taking it upon ourselves to be less lenient on inciting fans that came over with Lin. At the same time, we're also done with personal attacks, backseat moderating, and the outright just false accusations on the Brooklyn personnel.

That said, let this be a fresh start for everyone, but know that NyCeEvO and I are done with anything that led to what happened in the last thread.

The other site has a good profile on Lin. He's in his brace practicing his shooting form. He said he was really hurt and brokenhearted by the injury but it's all about training for the rehab now and getting back for next season. Lin's a real religious dude and that helps him through adversity.

Just want to jump in and say that the moderators on this forum are the best I've ever seen on any sports forum that I have visited. It's not even close. I for one, as both a long-time Lin fan and now a Nets fan, greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness and consistently balanced approach that is taken. Thanks for all of your work.

So about that player option. I’m hoping that we can convince Lin to opt out and sign a new, more team friendly deal. I was thinking something like 1st year worth 6mill with a player option for 7 mill in 2019-20. That means that he’s guaranteed all the money from his old contract plus the vets minimum in case he’s never able to recover. If he does recover then he can opt out and we’ll be able to sign him to a larger deal using his bird rights.

I’d be willing to offer 2 years 17 mill. 7 mill in the 1st year and 10 in the 2nd year with a player option. But I’d need the last year to be only 6 mill guaranteed and he can get to 10 mill based on how many games he played in the 1st year of his contract/recovery. Let’s say 60 games in 2018-19.

The NBA is not the NFL. That is not a legal NBA contract. Also, there is no way the Player's Association would be happy with Lin opting out of a deal only to spread the same guaranteed money over 2 years.

This is false. That is almost definitely a legal contract you should look up the deal that Embiid got if you think it isn’t. It’s a great example of just how complicated unguaranteed deals can be. The only questionable thing i suggested is if you can have the amount of games in one season effect salary for the next season. I know for a fact you can make the amount of games relevant to the contract in the same season and id consider that. Your NFL comment is irrelevant.

Contracts like that have been signed for players in the past with a significant injury history like Jeremy. Players have also opted out of large 1 year deals for long term deals that give less money per year think Andrei Kirilenko with us and Dirk Nowirzki. There’s no reason why the NBPA would object to it. No rules are broken. They didn’t have a problem when Kevin Durant left 15+ mill on the table. Jeremy would have to file a complaint of some sort and I don’t see why he would if he signs the deal and has a player option before the partially guaranteed season.

Contracts can only go up or down a maximum of 8% in any given year, so you can't jump from $7mil to $10mil.
AK thought he was going to land a large deal with the Spurs, but that fell through. Nowitzki essentially has a lifetime contract in Dallas. Lin isn't getting that here.

With our cap situation It would be really great if he either opted out and we clear that 12 million or he signed a longer deal with less AAV.

We have 16 million in cap room before extending Russell & RHJ and I really dont want either to hit restricted free agency
