First thing that stood out to me was what he said about the way we defend the side screen n' roll.
Nik is describing our SnR defense and how his muscle memory is still in ICE mode, he's use to iceing the screen man (this is why Atkinson wanted days of practice) Nik is use to icing and feel the back push, sending his man baseline b/c Embiid and Holmes are there to block the the shot. In Brooklyn, we don't ICE to the baseline, we like pressing up the middle and sending the man to get contested in the top of the key. If at any time they go baseline, we usually send help D The MIG as Kenny Atkinson calls it to close off the path to the rim or force an extra pass.
Interesting to hear that from Sauce.

The Sauce brought the heat last night. He's got some decent handle too. I like his aggressiveness and he's got an edge to him, he was talking **** out there. i like that.

I only saw the highlights but agree his handle and ability to get to the rim was kind of surprising. He looks like a good fit for the Joe Harris role post-deadline/next year.

He needs to work on his quickness. he looked great tonight but he isnt going to shoot 90% from three every game. his quickness is what has slowed him at the NBA level, we all knew he could shoot and finish from his wolverine days.
crabbe and harris are the fastest most ahtletic guys but both have the quickness off ball screens to get their shot off. he will need to improve that.
interested to see what his PT looks like once crabbe and russell are both back....
looking at salaries, i think harris or stauskus is likely to be traded at the deadline.

Yet he played better than both have in his debut...

It won't be Sauce I bet.

yes but thats not really sustainable right? like he isnt going to shoot 72% from three for the season right?

Yeah... i dont think its out of the realm of possibility that the guy is better then both allen and harris... those two have been solid for the nets... but at the same time those guys are role players. im not willing to say stauskas cant be better then both.

It is just one game so ridiculously early to be drawing conclusions
But in he first game, Sauce didnt show Harris’s great off ball movement and cutting instincts. And although it’s just one game, he didn’t show Crabbe level of defense — also much smaller wingspan than Crabbe. - 6’ 7.75 vs 6’11.25
But his shot was quick and lethal. He looked comfortable in our offense. He was able to get to basket, And he is also supposed to have playmaking skills. Which we will probably see more of in future.
Good pick up

The ball cutting and movement was rust plus Okafor didn't set those screens well. It'll take time.
The defense is something he has to adjust to, mainly rust but we weren't playing man to man, we played 1-2-2 zone. He was a bit loss on a couple of ball screens and he explained in that postgame interview his muscle memory is still thinking the Philly defensive scheme on iceing the SnR man to the baseline.

He only played in a couple of games this year yet showed he can dribble and attack the rim so he's not one dimensional. I think that's why they were playing zone defense he'll learn. Harris didn't have the off ball movement when he came here he worked on it, Sauce will be a favorite.

While it's early it and will take some convincing - is there any reason to not believe Brooklyn won this trade?
Both players will have an impact on this roster some how some way. I'm geek'd by their trade moves. Marks refuses to let this franchise fail. Some of the moves are risky but he's doing his best to make this team legit. All i know is the movement has begun. If they can develop this current roster, a playoff spot might not be too far fetched.
The Nik Stauskus trade is full transparency that the mission is to challenge the east. Marks is a magician who has made something out of nothing. Sean wins. Again.

bruh I still can't believe he turned a deal that asked for 2 first rd. picks in the summer to a deal where you take back 2 lotto picks that fell out of rotation and a 2nd rd. pick.
Philly did the opposite of what Sean Marks did w/ Booker and Young. He knew Booker was falling out of that rotation, rather than sit him, he moved him for other positional help. Same he will do w/ Joe Harris this winter. Same he did w/ Thad Young in the draft.
Okafor had high value for Philly. Philly knew it was Embiid's team and they were committed to him, they let him rot in the bench. Stauskas WAS A LOTTO PICK. They let this guy rot b/c they weren't interested in developing him after they paid 23M to JJ Reddick. Which is absurd.
So Nik in game one, passes better than any SG we have, dribbles better than any SG we have, and rebounds better than any SG we have. This was a theft.

Gaining Russell, Okafor, and Stauskas has been a coup. All of them are under age 26 and have room to grow.
if we can get some good health post ASB, we will be winning plenty of games to round out this season IMO.
