Most Improved Player should go to Our Guy

Dinwiddie got cut by two teams, went to the D-League and turned into a legitimate starter, the best point guard on the team and one of the best in the league. He capped it off by winning the skills challenge.

I like Dinwiddie & he’s absolutely made an impressive leap from fringe player to legitimite PG, but he’s not averaging 20+ ppg or leading our team to the playoffs like Oladipo in Indiana.

i think Spencer should be considered for the award, but Victor Oladipo went from rotation guy to All Star franchise SG. he deserves the award.

Agreed on Oladipo deserving it. Dinwiddie also needs to finish strong. His play/effectiveness has slipped a bit. It's hard to continue to call him a "legit starter."

You guys disappoint

how can you ever expect to get respect from outsiders if you don't praise you're own?
Oladipo was already established and received the big contract last year.

He just won the skills competition and you come out your mouth and say it's hard to call him a legit starter? I swear the players deserve better than this.
The Brooklyn Nets aka the Rodney Dangerfield of NBA teams even from there own fans

Bruh isn't he leading the league in assist/turnover ratio? That's pretty tough to do in the NBA, especially on a bad team. He might not be a 20ppg scorer, and we might not be in the playoffs, but hes been the only good thing this season besides Allen & RHJ. Crabbe is still turning the corner, and LeVert has been a positive on the court, but the play of Spence is definitely legit. We migtht gush over Dlo's potential, but Din is the better PG today, and is pretty darn good against the rest of the league
You're buggin

Not bugging. The skills competition is irrelevant to play within a game. His shooting has been flat out bad & his defense is poor. He's a nice find & a pleasant surprise. He has however been regressing to the mean. He has an elite assist to turnover ratio, but he's currently at best average in the rest of his game. He's currently trending as a high-end backup / low-end starter. That's by no means his ceiling, but let's not rank him as a top 15 PG either.

Oladipo's numbers, efficiency, PER etc jumped up across the board drastically this season:
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/o/oladivi01.htmlI'm one of the guys on here who calls people crazy for wanting to trade Spencer. I think he is absolutely a starting level player and should be retained because starting PGs just don't grow on trees like some folks here think. but i think objectively, Oladipo runs away with the award. But Spencer is definitely deserving of votes and to be in the conversation.

He is a legit starter. I'm not sure where all this fringe stuff is coming from, shooting efficiency aside Spencer has been fantastic. Check the RPM for his position. he's up there with some pretty serious names.

Who isnt praising dinwiddie? he unanimously gets love and props here.... just because people arent being blind homers and giving him the award cause he is our guy doesnt mean we dont appreciate what he has down to improve.
He is in the mix for sure, but i'd put him comfortably behind Oladipo and Just below Jalen Brown at #3.
I think RHJ probably needs to be top 5 in MIP along with Lou Williams on that list too

RPM, despite it's attempt to normalize, still has many flaws. The biggest of which is the level of replacement player(s) on the team, especially at that position. With Lin out & Russell out/recovering for the majority of the season, the baseline is far more negative than it would be for most other teams.

fair enough, you're correct. So, what metric do you want to use to prove that he is or isn't a starter?
the biggest knock on Spencer is his efficiency (and thats due to the high volume of threes he takes). Other than that, what makes him, in your opinion, a fringe starter?

The problem is that the efficiency isn't just due to a high volume of 3s. He has no midrange shot making ability. This season he shoots 58% from inside 3 ft, 27.6% from 3-10ft, 34.6% from 10-16ft, 30% from 16ft-<3pt & 33.6% from 3. That's plain terrible, and now that teams do a better job running us off the 3 pt line, he's either stepping even further back & hoisting long 3s or getting forced into the midrange where he can't convert. We're a terrible shooting team, and he's below our terrible team's average from every range on the court.
People have often criticized our 3pt heavy scheme & pointing to that for the loss of many games. If anything, it's masking or talent deficiencies, and has us more competitive than we should be.
I'm not saying Dinwiddie can't be a starter, but to me "legit starter" means an argument can't be made to the contrary, e.g. a top 20ish PG. He's not in that category. Of the players capable of playing at least some PG on this team, I rank him 3rd in terms of future potential & importance to the franchise. We were right to turn down Cleveland's 1st (currently 26th) for Dinwiddie. If somebody offers a pick in the teens though, I'm pretty sure Marks bites.

So his shooting efficiency issue is what makes him a fringe starter?

From a purely statistical measure perspective: Yes
There's also not a huge drop off from say the 18th best PG to say the 40th. He's much closer to a guy like Teodosic than he is to the guys in the first few tiers of PGs. He's nowhere near the Harden/Curry tier. He's nowhere near the Irving/Lilliard tier. I wouldn't even put him close to the Bledsoe tier. He can be anywhere from a Ricky Rubio to a Milos Teodosic. Nice players, but you're always willing to upgrade from them.

That's the problem right there fans shouldn't be objective imo root hard for your guys. It's someone else's job to be objective.
How do ever expect to win if you don't have backup (the fans) going up against a team that does?

Good point we should cheer more for Rhondae too either way most improved belongs here.
Oladipo does not play for Brooklyn so why everyone is talking about him idk.
YES broadcast gushes over opposing players too much and now you guys are following suit this is insanity.

You aren't enough the fact that you have to talk about other teams in the same sentence as him proves it. Your post has been displayed without other teams players.
I'm a passionate fan as everyone should be here. Ian Eagle is not a fan nor are any of the people who work for YES they are employees there's a difference.
