Reaction on Nets draft day from past to present

As this year's draft, was a fairly pleasant one for me (we took a player that was high on my list of prefs.), I looked back on all the past draft picks and recalled my reactions to them. I also want to hear your reactions on Nets draft picks.

'05 - My first time watching a draft was the year they took Antoine Wright. No feeling what so ever with this pick. Nothing really to say.

'06 - Since I was still new to this sport, and the whole draft experience, i had no expectations nor any knowledge of any of the players. What I recall from this day though, is how much commotion that grew around Marcus Williams the more he fell. The point where he started to fall near the range the Nets were picking at, I hoped to hell that every team passed on him until the Nets pick. And when it came the moment the Nets were on the clock, and they announced his name, I got so hyped. As for this board, people calling him the next Kidd (w/ a jump shot) lol. That got me even more excited as I was lured into believing it.

As for the other picks, (Boone, Adams) didn't care for em.

'07 - This was the first time where I actually did some research on the players that would be there in the nets pick range. Sean Williams was #1 on my list because I was convinced with his physical attributes and he had like 4 blocks in college(?). And the fact that Amare was running the league at the time, I let myself indulge the thought that Sean would be Amare w/ defense. And I know alot on this board felt the same way.
His rookie year actually left a little bit of validation that he could at least be decent. He showed flashes during the season and in the rookie all-star game, he even oop'ed it to himself off the back board. ofc, he also bit way too much on going for a block and just had low IQ. IDK why Lawrence frank put so much expectation on him in just a summer league game in his 2nd year. He even said "I mean cmon… you should dominate". That was so unnecessary lol.

B'lo - my god, when he was taken, I almost quit being a Net fan. I didn't want a player like him at all. I didn't care if he was going to be good or not. I just didn't like his game which was a traditional post up player. so boring. he did end up growing on me in his tenure. although i was up and down on him throughout.

Ryan Anderson - I was alright with. I always had a preference towards a player like him even before this era set a standard for stretch shooters.

CDR - Just like Sean williams, I had this guy's name written down on my list. And once again, I was undeservingly too hyped up for a pick which amounted to nothing.

'09 - I didn't really care for Twill much. But he actually had some talent in addition to his athleticism, and had some sick dunks. I thought he would be a player in the league.

'10 - This was the year that I created this acct. I was so excited for the draft, weeks before it even occurred. because it was the first time a Nets pick would be projected to go top 4 in my time of being a fan. ofc Nets land the 3rd pick, because it's dictated that they should never have good fortune. Either way I wanted Favors. When it came time for the Nets to pick, I wanted his name to be called so bad and when it did, it was the most joyous I've ever been since being a fan of this sport. This time, there was actual validation to have high expectations for a prospect of his calibur. people on here projected him to be an elite defensive presence with freak athleticism. And then when he finally hit the floor in his first year, while everyone was oozing with satisfaction, all of my anticipation for his potential disappeared. he was no where near as athletic as advertised and he was so raw. Although he did turn out to have a good career.

The other guy that was drafted: Damion james lol. I'd have no recollection of him if I hadn't looked him up.

'11 - I didn't really care for Marshon brooks the time he was drafted but he did peak my interest as he had a fair bit of talent when he started playing.

In the short amount of time that he played, I actually liked Jordan williams. I thought he would be a staple bench player.

'12 - I didn't even pay attention this draft.

'13 - yawn. I liked Plumlee a bit when I got to see him play his first season.

'14 - I didn't watch.

'15 - RHJ and McCullough. I didn't care for either at the time. I actually disliked RHJ so much that I wished he was waived. And then this last year, is where my opinion of him turned 180. It's funny all the guys I liked in every draft turned out to be bad. And the one guy i didn't like turned out to be something.

'16 - Levert and Whitehead. They weren't picks that made me jump up in joy. After they were picked, I started watching their college highlights and I got hyped up with levert. This was the start of me regaining my anticipation for the nets seasons again after a long hiatus. I liked what kind of player i saw in levert after he started showing he could play and he was the guy i put all my hopes on for the future of the nets after his rookie year.

I thought Whitehead was good and if it wasn't for the Nets deep guard rotation, I think he would actually be a good player. I like him more than Dinwiddie tbh, even if his game doesn't fit the nets as well.

'17 - I actually hated this pick SO much. lol. and now, Jarrett Allen is my favorite current Net player and the guy I'm indulging all of my homerism on. I have like 2 sides when it comes to perceiving players. one side is the side where I let the improbable expectation to flow and where I let myself believe that Jarrett Allen will turn into Clit Capella plus. where he will do everything capella does but with an elite jumpshot, 3 point range and can create his own shot. Ofc the other side is where I know realistically capella is probably what you hope his ceiling to be.

PS. Mo Bamba's first summer league game is against Allen, and Allen will fk him.

'18 - The first time where I actually got excited for draft time in a long time. Of all the players I wanted in this draft, Musa was high on the list. I didn't think he would fall anywhere near where the Nets were picking at, so I wrote him off. Similar to Marcus Williams i anticipatedly kept waiting for every pick above the nets to pass up on him and when it was the Nets time to pick and they called his first name, I thought it was some other guy. I was like fk man... (I thought his name was pronounced 'du-zan-an) and then i was like "oh wait, that is him" :banghead: I was happy again. ofc, every pick I like ends up being trash, lol. I hope this is the exception.

as for the 2nd pick, I don't know who Kurucs even is. I wanted Diallo, but I don't mind it.

Wow I forgot how much we sucked at drafting before Marks, majority of those guys are out the league. The only really good player we drafted was Lopez.

Yeah the nets drafts always sucked because they were never in position to get a name player *w/ the picks they had* except maybe Arenas. the brightside is that the nets were never the team that passed on a Curry or Mitchell.

Ironically, BroLo has become a stretch shooter. OTOH would you have preferred KVH over Duncan? 8-)

Incidentally, now that the game has trended towards long range shooting, I’m hoping that the post game comes back. I like going against the grain.

Kenny was saying that in the interview, you hope Jah would work out? Poster boy for the post game.
