Why the hell didn't we give this guy a 4 year deal  :banghead:

It's the same reason we gave Spencer two years, with a third-year player option. The player has to agree to the deal as much as the team.

We sacrificed long-term security of tying those guys up, in order to have additional cap space this summer. Sure, it would be nice to have both of those guys locked up through 2022, but the number it would have taken to convince them to sign for four years would have made signing Durant and Irving impossible.

Harris and Dinwiddie would not have taken four-year deals at their current salary numbers, and they know that if they play well they will have much richer contracts when they hit free agency next time.

Thank you for those last two posts. I hadn't thought as deeply about this stuff, and the comments were both enlightening for me.

I guess overall, some very nice signs of Marks playing the long game instead of careening from decision to decision like... some other NYC team, for example.

Hopefully they figure out how to use him properly. Sounds like right now ball movement is almost nonexistent and its moreso a bunch of individuals taking turns playing hero ball, not looking to set up the next guy, like Joe.

mitchell/Kemba are awful choices for PG for an all-star type teams since they are aggressive gunners. both should be 2-gaurds for USA teams. if fox stayed it would have been great. but you ideally want someone who distributes the ball in that spot

Not surprisingly we see that Boston's guys are out for self. But yeah, Kyrie was to blame for everything going to **** over there.

I wonder if we're looking at a repeat of 2003.

Interesting how they eventually owned up to playing as individuals, but also replaced Kyrie with a score-first PG.

"Veddy intereshting," as Arte Johnson used to say on that show.

Seriously. I seem to remember Carmelo opening his big fat mouth bragging it up one moment, then the team promptly going out and underperforming consistently. IIRC they also had an embarrassingly large talent advantage-- more dramatic than this year's team, I think.

They had a talent advantage but the team was poorly constructed. No outside shooting and Duncan couldn't handle being swarmed defensively under FIBA rules. Also, Lebron and Carmelo were literally teenagers, so it was moot.

Joe went 3/5 (2/3 from downtown) for 9pts and 4rebs today for the US' win over the Czechs.

What y'all think about Luke Kennard for Joe? That guy can play!!! I'll throw Musa if they'll ask.

I don't understand why Joe seems so lightly valued around the league, sometimes.

I mean he's not only a hot commodity 3pt shooter, but he's arguably the 2nd best one in the league behind Curry. He's not only that, but his movement / cutting is really good and he's a borderline elite finisher and a still-growing player.

People think last season was a fluke, maybe? I don't see it. Maybe his 3pt shooting comes back down somewhat, but that's still an elite shooter right there. Also, we don't even know what we have with Musa, yet. Maybe trade him next offseason if the right opportunity comes along, but this season should be huge in finding out what he can do in the NBA.

Probably preaching to the choir, but... :P

I'd rather keep Joe. He's our guy and frankly having him on the floor with Kyrie and KD will be insane.

Team USA barely beats Turkey today, but Joe Harris continues to proudly rep the USA

11pts 5rebs 2stls on 4-7 FG, 2-3 from downtown. Joey Buckets is on a roll and he was in there with the starters in OT and the 4th. Popovich might try to steal Joe away from us next offseason, please extend his contract Marks.

Joe must be so confused playing next to all these guys that don't pass.

I love Joe Harris, but he shouldn't have to be relied on by a national team down the stretch. He was one of the few players today that had a good overall game.

"Relying on him" seems like 180° on that, though.

Just pass it to him when he's open or coming open. Basketball ABC. Do it all game long and you just made everything easier for yourself.

There's a certain amount of difference between drawing a play that gets him open/finding him open and running an isolation for him. He shouldn't have to handle the ball, but again nearly the entire team was terrible today. You would think there's dozens of players in the NBA that can do better in that situation than Joe, but it fell on him because of how many players declined and once again, nearly the entire team was terrible today.

Thanks, I see what you're saying now. I only read about the game and didn't realise Joe was being sort of improperly used like that.

And now Tatum is down. Zoiks.
