With media days and training camps beginning, the 2018-19 season has officially begun.

Here is a link to our 2017-18 season thread.

And to get this thread started, I saw this tweet today.

Read on Twitter

When I first saw this, my heart skipped a beat because he meant AD was traded to the Lakers.

The scary part is they legitimately have the assets to get him when he ultimately winds up on the block.

Klay Thompson and Jimmy Butler are nice. AD is the only franchise altering impending free agent.

Kawhi. Kyrie is borderline, but more along the lines of Butler.

Klutch Sports is Lebron James' agency.

Well so is Eric Bledsoe, John Wall and Ben Simmons amongst others.

Is Jimmy Butler a top 10 player?

There's a topic about it on the GB, but I can't comment in there lol, so what does our board think?

Borderline, yes. It's arguable but there's no way you can say that he isn't top 15 at least.

In no order,

Lebron
Curry
KD
Harden
Anthony Davis
Kawhi
Westbrook
Giannis
Paul
Butler

That’s debatable. I love Kawhi and all but he doesn’t deserve to be considered better right now than guys who were very close to winning an MVP award. He’s also got to prove he’s 100% a Top 5 Player still.

AD was putting up monster numbers carrying an awful supporting cast to the second round while Kawhi was being a “fun guy” by playing hooky on the Spurs for a whole year. I know AD could ask out real soon but he’s definitely capable of an MVP award this season in a tougher conference.

He's my fav player but he's not enough to carry a team in the west to the playoffs AD carried a team with no shooting guards he makes that much of an impact. He can shoot from 3 post up, block shots and rebound a swiss army knife at center.

Spoiler:
Btw Klay Thompson is better than Jimmy Butler.

I would have to think about that one. Klay isn't a scrub but Butler may have more impact overall.

Okay so I pulled up a player comparison for Jimmy Butler vs. Klay

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=1&player_id1_hint=Jimmy+Butler&player_id1_select=Jimmy+Butler&y1=2018&player_id1=butleji01&idx=players&player_id2_hint=Klay+Thompson&player_id2_select=Klay+Thompson&y2=2018&player_id2=thompkl01&idx=players

Taking a look at their career advance numbers, I don't know if you can say if Klay is better than Butler. Is Klay a better shooter? Without question. That's about where it gets dicey for Klay in comparison. Butler is better in a lot of other areas.

Here is their comparison for last season:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1_hint=Jimmy+Butler&player_id1_select=Jimmy+Butler&y1=2018&player_id1=butleji01&idx=players&player_id2_hint=Klay+Thompson&player_id2_select=Klay+Thompson&y2=2018&player_id2=thompkl01&idx=players

There is no way I can say that Klay is better than Butler despite the difference in games played.

George, Embiid, Irving & possibly Lillard are ahead of Butler in my opinion. At worst, they're on the same tier.

Even if everyone considers him a lock top-15 player, the bigger question is how much longer will he be in the top 15? When does hes start slipping, and younger guys start passing him up? It's likely that Lebron, Paul & Butler are the first guys on that list that start sliding.

I don't think I would argue against that.

Jimmy's probably not going to fall off until after age 34. I expect at least for the next 3 seasons he'll still be in the top 15 barring injury.
