SI.com: Joe Tsai nearing deal w/ James Dolan for NY Liberty

Post#1 » by Paradise » Wed Jan 9, 2019 10:58 pm

Nets will have a sister WNBA team in the near future.

NEW YORK (AP) — Brooklyn Nets minority owner Joseph Tsai is close to adding another New York team to his sports portfolio.

An investment group led by the co-founder of the Alibaba Group is close to a deal to buy the Liberty, a person familiar with the purchase told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person, who said the deal could be done within a week, spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the discussions were private. The WNBA’s regular season begins in May.

Tsai bought a 49 percent interest in the Nets in April. Liberty owner James Dolan put the team up for sale in November 2017. There had been several potential buyers and a few had gotten close to purchasing the team over the past 14 months, but all the deals fell through for various reasons.

The WNBA already has released its schedule for 2019, and the Liberty are set to play in suburban Westchester again, with the two school and camp-day games listed without a venue. With dates locked in, it could be difficult to move games to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center if that’s what the new ownership group wanted.

Dope, hopefully this will lead to some good cross promo for the Liberty. The WNBA's promotion has always been atrocious imo

I disagree. There are a lot of good players in the WNBA. Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Candice Parker, Elena Delle-Donne, Breanna Stewart, Angel McCoughtry, Diana Taurasi, are all top notch and highly respected players and those are just the bigger names.

Right now to me, Chelsea Gray is one of the nastiest and most efficient ballers I've ever seen. Her perimeter game is beautiful. If you ever get a chance, put all bias aside and take some time to watch the LA Sparks play, she goes in hard she's my favorite player to watch in the WNBA right now.

Not saying you're guilty of this, but most of the men who I see saying that the WNBA sucks don't ever sit down to really actually watch these women play. Obviously you're not getting high flying dunks and what not but the entertainment is there especially if you just love basketball.

Haven't watched this season but every time I've watched in the past it's been awful. The level of play is just so low overall that I don't find it entertaining. Keep in mind that I struggle to watch college basketball at times because even the talent level there is lacking for me.

Is it exciting? Sure, in a way that it's unexpected.

But from a talent, execution, and athleticism level?

For me, I don't enjoy watching it as much.

^^each to his own, I can respect that. I will disagree about talent and execution though. Athleticism yes, women's basketball doesn't have explosive athletes but as far as talent and execution goes, it does. I don't find the overall play to be sloppy and there are a ton of skilled players.

I'm telling you, check out Chelsea Gray if you ever get the chance. She is nasty af dude. Listen, if D'Angelo Russell can get his offensive game to the level of her efficiency he'll be a 10x all star
