With the 17th Pick the nets take... Deandre Hunter
Watched the Virgina/Louisville game this weekend.... saw some more Deandre Hunter. Love this dude. Hard working kid, seems like the type of worker/person the nets would see value in I think this is the kid and type of player that Marks is going to target in the draft.
-6'7" 235 pounds. Fits that RHJ/Carroll size mold marks likes at PF
-UVA plays a ton of zone. Hunter often rotates to or plays the top and gets alot of steals in it (see first play in video above)
-great ball handler for a guy his size, can go left and right, finish with each hand
-plays bigger then his size, above the rim, will mix it up with bigs
-good from three, off screens not just catch and shoot straight aways.... he isnt a stretch big, he is a flat out shooter from deep.
-runs the floor, finsihes in transition
-can gaurd smalls.. PG, SG, SF, PF... has the quckness to be matched up on a G all game
He had some clutch shots too... huge game winner vs. #1 lousiville last year. He is projected in the mid teens now, although with a good tournament that could easily be late lotto. i wouldnt mind moving up to #12 or #14 to try and get this kid.
He could be our paul george/kawhi early teens guy who ends up having the alent/career of a high lotto player

Is he going to replace RHJ? Because having them both would be redundant.

Carroll likely wont be back. Maybe Graham as well. RHJ might not be back if we sign a max player, as renouncing him may be needed to clear the cap space depending on what we do with Crabbe's money.
Either way, starting F is a big need. We need to find more talent there. I like Kurucs and what he has shown but it should still be a priority. RHJ and Hunter being redundant isnt really a problem. If hunter turns out to be a starting level player or better you figure out what to do with RHJ later.
One of our picks will be on a Forward. thats a lock.
I can see us also taking a center if Ed Davis isnt back because we need the money for a big contract. Maybe Sagaba Konate... Shot blocking center who has some rollman skills.

Graham will most likely be back given how cheap his deal is. I could see Carroll back on the Room MLE as well.

what's the wing span on this kid?
I am kind of iffy on taking another 6'7 guy and putting him at PF but then again I'm high on Hachimura and he's only 6'8

I’d rather have Carrol over Graham. And to be honest I’m leaning towards moving on from RHJ and giving Rodi his spot.

no measurments yet... but he certainly seems long/bigger
Whether its him or a fee agent nets will be adding a biggish SF type to be PF. we arent going to get a bid to play that spot.

Carroll costs more, we would need to use the room exception to bring him back. depends how free agency goes. his cap hit is big. he will be renounced early on. maybe brought back with an exception if we can make it work

Why do you think Carroll won't be back?

So they won't go for Randle instead this guy will be the power forward.

Because if we dont renounce him then it drastically cuts into our salary cap this offseason. Carrolls cap hold is 23 million. Wecant sign a max or even a 10+ million contract without renouncing him.

we dont know. the draft comes before free agency, so unless we trade for someone they will probably draft a SF/PF tweener type in case free agency doesnt go as planned.
In FA im sure they will make a run at Tobias, Kawhi, Butler, and Durant. if they strike out, they may look to bring back carroll, graham, RHJ, etc..

7'2" Wingspan according to the NBA Draft board.
They also seem to be super high Hunter... hard not to be with how well he fits the modern NBA

King Ken wrote:This is probably the draftniks on the board favorite prospect. This advanced BBIQ physical marvel will have a positive impact on any team he is on.
He has plus wingspan and size at 6'7 228 and a 7'2 wingspan with big paws. He has plus lateral quickness and thinks the game quicker than most with excellent positioning on offense and defense. He is somewhat like an Al Horford of wings. A playmaker from the wing, his 2.2 ast to .9 tov is amazing considering the system they have at UVA. Off the ball marvel on offense and defense, he fits the modern NBA to a tee. Has a 52/42/83 split which is highly efficient. While I am not a huge fan of the BPM, he has a BPM of 11.9 which is elite and an offensive rating of 133.6 while having a DefRtg of 85.2. Due to playing in a system that wants you to keep the man in front of you, doesn't have the most impressive steals and blocks numbers but watching the film, it's clear to say a coach can coach him into this aspect of the game as the ability and instincts is there.
I have him a top 5-10 grade in this draft. Here is some analysis from one of our draftniks, Knickstape1214 on vid: Please be sure to And 1 him for his contributions.

I've actually watched him quite a bit. I too think he would be a perfect PF fit here. I like his all around game. Looks like an ideal 3&D PF.

Re: With the 17th Pick the nets take... Deandre Hunter
I would go for Bol Bol with the 17th pick, if he's available. I've seen him slip down boards lately because he hasn't played in months, but he was producing at an All-American level. IF he returns fully healthy, he has the lateral quickness and shot-making ability to thrive in the modern game on both ends. He's a top-5 talent in this draft IMO, but players as tall as him don't have great luck after foot injuries. I would bet on our S&C program to keep him healthy. We don't need to rush him into a role, but he has the highest upside of anyone I see in our range, and would fit our system IMO.
Hunter is fine, and could indeed be one of those perfect fits for Brooklyn. The schools that run the best system for 4-year players right now seem to feed well into our pipeline (Nova/Virginia/Michigan). But I think we can find that system combo F in the second round. Admiral Schofield, PJ Washington, Ignas Brazdeikis and Brandon Clarke make alot of sense to me.

Id pass on bol bol... even at 27 or 31. his defense is just awful. vs bigs, vs small, help. i love his offensive game, but i just see him as too much of a liability on the other end. ive seen him get abused by too many mediocure players

my top 2 choices so far
Rui Hachimura(if he falls, tankathon has him dropping to #18 to Spurs)
KZ Okpala(ideal 6'9 mobile stretch 4)

17 is no longer even remotely realistic for Hunter who is being mocked in the #4-#7 area.
If I needed to I would Trade levert and #17 and even throw in #27 or #31 to atlanta for their #5 or #6 pick and take hunter. Dude is going to be a stud in the PG/Kawhi mold as an athletic 6'8" player with a large wingspan who has 2-way allstar potential.
I hope this is the guy the nets target and i hope they dont worry about the cost to go get him
for those not farmiliar, id make Virginia's opening round game must see tv

Wassup Prok, your guy has not been looking good these past 2 games. Still think he will be a legit NBA player, he got pretty lucky today that his teammate hit a lucky shot to go to OT.
