Spitballin' Ringchaser Lineups: Which Group Would YOU Choose?

***MASSIVE EDIT TO REMOVE BAE, SHORTEN LINEUPS TO 3 PLAYERS***

Before you all pelt me with "don't-count-your-chickens" comments, I will say that I know Kyrie and Kevin aren't Nets. Yet.

As a bit of distraction, I'd like to redirect the conversation. After all, I think we're all a bit anxious for the max contract superstar portion of free agency to get going!

IF we get two max free agents and IF we bid adieu to our 23yo All-Star, it'll leave us with somewhere between 8 and 11 players signed on the 15-man NBA roster. I think that as young as they are, Claxton and especially Hands should remain in the G league most of next season. Alan Williams is a 2-way player that we could legitimately use as our backup 5. But I would rather scour the market, and continue to develop him down there. Pinson is a 2-way RFA, I hope we can keep him but I'd prefer that he stay down as well. You could make an argument for Dzanan to do another G-league stint as well, but I hope he earns a role with us.

My point: there will be a ton of spots available on this team. With the room exception starting @ $4.8mil, we'll have one decent contract to offer a role-player who fits around our core and the two studs we're (potentially) signing. I arbitrarily chose 30 years of age and older, since typically by that point in a player's career, they are looking at smaller, shorter contracts on contending teams. Beyond that, I've added 2 spots for veteran's minimum guys.

We may well bring back one or more of our veterans from last season, but for neutrality's sake I've omitted them. I also let on 30-somethings who will undoubtedly sign for bigger contracts than we can offer (Ariza, Gay, our own Davis).

Here's how I've tiered the players:

ROOM EXCEPTION
Darren Collison
Patrick Beverly
Danny Green
DeWayne Dedmon
DeAndre Jordan

VETERAN'S MINIMUM
Trey Burke
Luol Deng
Corey Brewer
Dante Cunningham
Jeremy Lin
Kosta Koufos
Boban Marjanovic
Ekpe Udoh
Thabo Sefolosha
Taj Gibson

If you had to choose a lineup based on fit, productivity, value and intangibles, which would you choose?

Unfortunately, you cannot use both the Room MLE AND the BAE in the same offseason.

We won't have the BAE as an under the cap team. Also, w/ KD out for the year, ring chasers will also be a year away.

Perhaps we should red-shirt Kyrie as well & finally tank for a year.

AH SHOOT!

I could have sworn that Miami offer both Miller and Jones deals with separate exceptions, after using their capspace on the Big Three. They must have split a single exception.

So, we have the Room exception, and then minimum contracts are all we can give??? I'll change the poll then, and just edit out the BAE dudes. Thanks for setting me straight.

Sorry for the mistake, guys. I have edited the OP, and I think it still merits discussion. I slimmed down the groups to 3, to make it one guard, one forward and one center. If they really gel, maybe they'll be the next Big3 squad!

Dedmon would be a solid addition. Why no Robin Lopez?

Danny Green would be a solid pickup. Has Spurs connection with Sean Marks which should help.

I've heard folks mention him as well, and he sounds fine if others are unavailable. Personally, I say he's not an elite rim-runner in the fast break or catching lobs. He's also not a passer and he doesn't stretch the floor. He's not even an average rebounder for his position. He's a banger, but his defense has fallen off over the past 2 seasons according to advanced metrics.

But I didn't purely use my opinion. To choose these guys, I mostly relied on 82games, on/off stats and other metrics. Robin ranked pretty low across the board. You can argue the size of his role, but I can honestly say I didn't cherrypick to exclude him.

Fair enough, thanks for the information. I didn't realize he had fallen off like that.

Any combination with Jeremy Lin... if your team has a Chinese player sitting on the bench during nba finals, the chance of your team winning the championship is 100% so far...
Hi Clutchie, I love you... :kiss
