Carmelo working out with the nets players
Carmelo Anthony has been participating in informal team workouts and scrimmages with players from the Brooklyn Nets in Los Angeles.
Anthony would still like to sign with an NBA team this season.
It is unknown what level of interest the Nets might have in Anthony.
The New York Knicks may have had interest in signing Anthony if they had also signed Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

While the upcoming FIBA World Cup will swiftly become the largest news around the basketball community, NBA teams are always trying to bulk up their benches.
And one likely future Hall of Famer is still looking for work.
Ten-time All-Star and veteran bucket-getter Carmelo Anthony hasn't given up on a return to the NBA. Given how quickly the latest update went from notable to forgettable pretty quick, it's understandable if you might have missed it.
Elsewhere, the once-leading candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers coaching job is reportedly headed to Hollywood—just not to the franchise many expected.
Carmelo Practicing with Nets Players
As recently as 2017, Anthony posted his 14th consecutive year of scoring at least 20 points per game. Since then, though, he's tumbled from stardom in unceremonious fashion and only made 10 appearances with the Houston Rockets in 2018-19.
Melo's NBA story might not be finished, but the setting is unknown.

I hated the idea of carmello on a rebuilding team of developing youth. id be lukewarm on him now, maybe motivated to be back in NY, and if he is at alll humbled and ok with a reduced role.
like jordan, he is a shell of what he was... maybe even closer to a corpse like chandler. but i can see him getting 20 mpg when someone hits injury where he gives us a boost

I wouldn't be against it if he checks his ego at the door. But that would mean someone is getting waived since we are at 15 players already. Unless you're going to send Jaylen Hand packing I doubt this has any legs.

I'd probably rather have Rodi getting all those minutes. I imagine him and Prince will be getting time playing the 4 mostly, with Chandler getting minutes sparingly. Don't know if Melo is necessary to winning basketball.

if we brought him in id assume he gets like 30-50 DNP-CDs, 8-10 mpg in the rest outside some 20-25 mpg nights when injuries hit.
he would need to accept that to come on

Re: Carmelo working out with the nets players
Brooklyn Nets superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are reportedly "pushing" for the team to sign free-agent forward Carmelo Anthony.
Frank Isola of The Athletic reported the update Thursday as Anthony joins New York Knicks players for informal five-on-five scrimmages in New York City, per Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated.

Pretty much. I think he should know there’s no choice but to fall in line if you sign with the Nets as a former Knick. It’s definitely going to never leave his reputation if he can’t last in the non-dysfunctional NY franchise that already has prior playoff chemistry and a top seed contender and a successful contender in Houston before that.
So, I’m all for Melo ending his career where he should’ve been traded to in the first place but he also has to understand we’re not going to be any different to the expectations of him in Houston but we will definitely handle the relationship much better if we don’t feel it’s working. That’s about it. It’s on him to accept a lesser role and know the NY media will hound him the moment he steps out of line here or has an attitude that Rodi, Taurean or anyone else finishes the game ahead of him.
I also think it could be good for the rest of the young guys to have Melo around and even for KD to have Melo around should acclimate him, kyrie and everyone else to the NY media, spotlight and overall experience. Like a passing of the torch to a certain degree.

I don't want Melo either, but if KD-Kyrie want it then you have to do it.
Just play him in limited minutes and garbage time.

How Manny games Chandler and Tample can give us? Every time you turn around they be hurt. 82 games is a long ass season and extra body won't hurt. We just can't lose here since our main core signed for the next 3-4 years. Melo being friends with our players and wanting to prove himself is kind of exiting imo.

Dinwiddie - Harris - Kurucs - Melo - Jordan is an ill bench mob tbh

Re: Carmelo working out with the nets players
Has he finally accepted he is a bench player yet or going to pout if he doesn't get PT?
Rodi and Prince will see heavy minutes at PF and they are very similar so I don't necessarily see Melo as a need.
Claxton and even the Fro would probably be better options at PF at this point.
I would be SHOCKED if he signs for us.

Re: Carmelo working out with the nets players
Melo would be a great addition. He can play the 4, maybe even some 5 off the bench.

Melo would have to buy in and be a soldier. Meaning, you're ready when your number is called, you will be a good presence in the locker room, and you will work hard to carve out a role in this system where players like him are most likely catch and shoot bigs who rebound.
can he do this? i don't know. he has a massive ego and we don't have time to waste with it.

Re: Carmelo working out with the nets players
I think I'll pass on Melo. I'd rather give the minutes to a young guy. Rodi and Prince should be able to handle all the real minutes at 4. I wouldn't be mad if Ellenson or Claxton got spot minutes here and there. Even Nwaba can play that Treveon Graham role.
Melo just brings more drama to the team. I could easily see him dividing the locker room and making Kenny's job tougher. He shouldn't have to answer ANY media questions about the 3rd string power forward. Especially now that this narrative is out that Kyrie and KD are pushing the team to sign Melo. I don't believe it but if it happens, it'll be a really bad look for our organization. This guy is the opposite of everything in our DNA.
If he was willing to play hard on defense and focus on spot up 3s, I'm sure he could help. But that's just not him. He loves posting up. He loves face up mid-range jumpers. He loves ISOs. With Kyrie, LeVert, and Dinwiddie - we should be running 0% of our offense through Melo. The rest of our offense should be Harris and Prince coming off screens.

These are the two realest takes upon the situation IMO.
Therefore, I say, let Sean Marks weigh the multitude of factors and make the best decision.
The part that's making me borderline nauseous is the idea that Kyrie and Durant are (reportedly) pushing Marks to do this or that. Like, dudes-- you're both awesome bball talents, and I look forward to your contributions, but could you please STFU when it comes to this stuff...?

Re: Carmelo working out with the nets players
I don't hate the idea of Melo on a minimum deal for a 20 game trial period. Knowing that we'll have to make a roster decision (him, Chandler, a 2 for 1 deal, etc.) provides Kenny & Sean leverage over him & forces him to be accepting of any role.

We don't know exactly what's happening...the media could be framing this as Kyrie and KD are "pushing" Marks to do something when in reality it could be them just saying hey what do you guys think about Melo? Context matters, and we aren't privy to the discussions. Do I think Kyrie and Durant are in Sean's office every day lobbying for Melo? No. I think someone heard something and the media is running with it.
This is unfortunately the downside of having two stars on our team now. Narratives will start to be created whether they are true or not.
I am not against Melo coming here but I don't want the Nets to start having drama issues.
