It depends, he may have ingested something that he wasn't aware of. It happens...it's VERY irresponsible, but it happens.

Like for instance, MLB had to send a warning out to the players that they need to stop taking those cock pills that are sold over the counter at gas stations because they contain a substance that will get flagged on drug tests.

Golden Tate from the Giants got suspended 4 games for PED use because he took a fertility drug that contained a chemical that was a banned substance.

So we don't know what Chandler may have taken to get popped.

As I've stated, as long as Melo does what Atkinson wants him to do and is not a disruption I have no problems bringing him in. But he will need to check his ego at the door.

I'm quite certain Melo still sees himself as a starter, rather than instant offense off the bench. And I think it's a bit problematic to have both Kyrie and Melo in the starting unit, the defense would suffer quite a bit.

What makes you think so? IIRC he's gone on the record a couple times the past year that he's come to accept being a backup.

That said, I don't know how happy he'd be as a 3rd stringer. I'm guessing most of his minutes would probably be in practice, and he doesn't really seem like the 'veteran presence' type.

I have nothing against him joining the team and working out successfully, but it doesn't seem like the best fit, and may cause the Nets some troubles down the road. I guess his best fit would be for a team that needed an instant offense / iso scorer as a backup. A 7th-man type, or so.

The Nets with 15 guaranteed contracts can add a 16th player after the game against the Rockets. Brooklyn plays the following night (Nov. 2) at Detroit. Chandler will be removed off the suspension list for the Dec. 15 game vs. Philadelphia. Chandler can participate during training camp and play in the Nets pre-season games.

Marks also reports the Nets will get a $291,000 luxury tax credit. Brooklyn was well under —$6.4 million—the tax threshold before the suspension.

So they can get another player while Chandler is out it seems. I'm confused about if they sign a player if it's for the rest of the season and we get to keep that player or if it'd be a make a pick between Chandler and whoever they sign. Maybe they don't sign anyone but I doubt it Dante Cunningham would be a good choice imo.
