KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
Since Karl-Anthony Towns is leading the tradewinds today, and since we're playing them tonight, I figured it would be a good time to ask about this deal:
Dinwiddie/Harris/Allen/Kurucs/20PHI1st/22BRK1st/24BRK1st for Towns/Graham/Bell
I know it's a big offer, and it might not even be the best offer or most palatable to MIN out there. But would you agree to it, if you were the Nets front office? 4.5 years of club control on a 24yo MVP candidate, who IMO would mesh well with the strengths of Kyrie and Kevin.

Of course you do it. Kyrie, KD and KAT is dynasty written all over it. Plus two home town guys will be huge for Tri-state fans wise.

I want to read Prok's thoughts before I give my opinion. KAT is his favorite player.

Re: KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
Din, Harris and Allen are a championship level supporting cast. A bench spark plug who can carry the team through injury. A knock down 3pt shooter with toughness who moves without the ball and can put the ball on the floor. A mobile defensive minded rim protector who executes in the pick and roll and doesn't need touches to impact the game AND has greatly improved as a rebounder AND leads our team in PER. All 3 guys are loyal and home grown. Of course KAT is phenomenal and will be an MVP candidate year on year... I mean if it's there I guess you probably have to go for it. I think it makes us worse and more vulnerable short term and better long term. I personally wouldn't do it if it was my call.

His head probably exploded, having to choose between Joe and Karl!

Re: KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
I'm surprised that votes have gone more for not doing the deal, does anyone have more insight into why? The devil you know? Or you don't believe that KAT would mesh with Kyrie and Kevin???
I started a thread on the T&T board as well, discussing possible KAT trade offers. I think ours would fare well against almost anyone else's. Boston (Jayson Tatum) and New Orleans (Zion Williamson) could come over the top, but the consensus was that those guys were not going to be traded by their teams.
Despite the fact that we haven't seen the Durant/Irving era come to fruition with our current supporting cast, an opportunity land a 7' super-elite talent doesn't come along every day.

Ah good point, Karl is another local kid. Of course, a player as talented as he is would be desirable anywhere. But the additional factor that he'd be coming home is icing on the cake.

Nope. Towns is great but he's not a winning player. Even if you put the right guys around him, he doesn't play hard enough. I rather have Gobert.

Eh, I don't think you can say that for certain, when he's never been in a winning environment in the NBA. You've seen players like Cousins, Randolph, Odom and others get a reputation for not "wanting it bad enough", but on winning teams with solid FO's they thrive.
Karl played winning basketball in HS, for the PR and @ Kentucky. I would love to see Embiid and Towns in the same division, duking it out over the next 5-7 years for legacy. His defense has definitely taken longer to come around, but I think t hat Kenny can further improve on that. And boy oh boy, a pivot who is an unguardable sniper from 3 could supercharge our offense.

At this point I'd consider it if it was a possibility. Irving, KD, and Towns would work well together

Absolutely. KAT is an elite level player (arguable top 10 this year, with top 5 talent). Still only 24, the best stretch big in the league by far, and locked up on a long term deal. He would be tremendous for us. Swap out Harris for Prince, and it's an easy yes.

Welcome, Fischella. May I assume that you're a MIN fan?
I understand that Minnesota's "what it'd take to trade KAT" valuation and other teams' "what we're willing to offer" valuation are mutually exclusive. It may just be that no team can or is willing to offer a package that convinces the Wolves to move KAT, and that's a plausible scenario. 24yo 25/10/5/1/1 machines don't grow on trees.
For the purposes of discussion, I have heard from a number of fanbases on the possibility of a Towns trade. BOS fans are adamant that their front office would never trade Tatum for Karl. For the same reason, NOP fans are staunchly opposed to including Zion. PHX fans are mixed on trading Ayton++, but I think their FO would do it. I think that a 26yo dark-horse All-Star candidate and a 21yo top-10 C are as good a framework as those above, at least the best you can find aside from them.
ATL (no Young), SAC (no Fox), NYK (no Barrett) are other potential suitors, but I don't think those offers are anywhere close to ours, let alone worthy of KAT.
What do YOU see as a realistic, amenable offer for Karl?

Re: KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
I am not a fan of any team in particular, but KAT has 4.5 years of team control and is a top15 player in the league and the best offensive big in the game, AD with injury concerns and one year of team control net a huge package, if you think that offer is nowhere near enough you are either not following the NBA whatsoever or very naive
Multiple teams would offer 3 unprotected firsts, better prospects and unprotected swaps for KAT right now, that's a fact
Also again, 4.5 year of team control, the Wolves are not even considering moving KAT at the moment unless you really really overpay
Also Jarrett Allen ain't a top10 Center man

I am offering 3 unprotected 1sts in this deal.
Quote me some better prospects, that you feel teams would pony up in a KAT trade. I'm not dogging the dude at all, you're right he is a top-15 player. I just want to vet the information.

Re: KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
The Suns would absolutely trade Ayton, who is not my cup of tea but has better value around the league than any of Brooklyn's prospects, 3 unprotected firsts, unprotected swaps, and some extra dudes like Bridges, for example, for him
And that's just one, you are offering 3 unprotected 1sts of a team with Kyrie, KD and KAT, and no swaps, you need to do better, obviously LeVert would be necessary too, Dinwiddie has value but not for a soon to be rebuilding team
Anyway this is a waste of time, Minnesota ain't moving him anytime soon

Anyone who says no to that is an idiot.
KAT, KD and Kyrie is an automatic Championship if healthy with no question. Its a dynasty in the making.
Wolves would never do it though. They can get way better offers.

Re: KAT for a King's Ransom, Would U Do It?
I like Kat but gutting the team for him would be a major panic move.
As of right now both KD and Kyrie are injury risks. This trade would leave the team depleted with little wiggle room and very few routes of acquiring depth.
We have already seen a team with KAT surrounded by none elite players miss the playoffs. If KD and Kyrie are hurt, then the season will be doomed. Same if it happened in the playoffs...
The only player I'd give that much for has to be in the LBJ, Kawhi, AD tier of talent.
The best bet is to wait out the KD, Kyrie era before trying to make any major moves.
