***Official Nets/NBA 2019-2020 Season Thread Part 2*** (Season has resumed)

The NBA returns July 31st, and will run until October. 22 teams are in, and with the new playoff qualification format we will need to hold on to our 7th spot to avoid any potential disaster of falling out and having to play in the play in tourney to make the playoffs.

Each team will play 8 regular season games before the playoffs begin. Per POOCH

The Warriors are not invited to Orlando, so the NBA will replace that game with another opponent, so our upcoming schedule is:

-Clippers
- Kings
- Wizards
- Celtics
- Magic
- Clippers
- Magic
-Blazers

Those two games against the Magic will be absolutely critical, but overall this is a brutal schedule. :nonono:

KD and Kyrie need to suit up. They are both healthy. There is no reason why we should be going into this undermanned.

The Nets need to hit the ground running here. The danger of falling out of playoff contention is legit.

If KD and Kyrie aren't playing(w/o any announceent of injury setback etc) I'll be highly disappointed.

I don't know if it's the long layoff, the world still dealing with COVID-19, the nationwide protests, or a combination of everything, but I'm not feeling this proposal at all.

I know Woj has been adamant that KD and Ky aren't playing but I'll believe it when I see it.

The problem with bringing back KD this year would've been getting him up to game speed right in the middle of a playoff run. The season starting July 31st basically means another training camp and a mini-preseason. Plenty of time to get him up to speed assuming he's healthy. The injury happened more than a year ago. That's a lot of time to heal. And even if we're a first round and out team - there's value in shaking the rust off and getting actual NBA games in.

We'll see. But I know the rest of the league is gonna be real mad if we come back and the team is at full strength

"No, we should go out quietly like cowards"....LOL...

I hope they both come back even on restricted minutes.

I would be be happy with us going 5-3.

Is it the fact that they're going to play during these times, or the actual format?

We'll see how things are in the end of July regarding the protests, but right now the US death total has jumped to 108k. Even though the infections in the hardest hit areas are going downward, we are still, by my knowledge, actually ahead of projected deaths which is not good.

If the violence continues to ramp up however, I have uncertainty about things resuming as planned.

Most likely the former since I only glossed at the format. We're all at a stage where we at least know someone who's been affected by COVID-19, either through the disease itself or through their job. You had a lot of government leadership not giving a damn about the ones that died or infected because they wanted to go out and shop, get their hair done, worried about the bottom line, and/or wanting to pretend everything is okay to continue to support President Douchebag.

Floyd's death added a hell of a lot more, but then I read and listened to countless bull from the internet and people in my life that can't make the simple decision of being against racism or not. I've been getting a lot of "What the police did to George Floyd was wrong and I'm not racist, but they shouldn't be looting like that." While I myself would never support looting, especially black owned businesses, but I definitely understand black people having enough of this and doing something to be heard. I still have non-black people in my life saying how black people should protest.

That last win against the Lakers feels like years ago and to be honest, my favorite sport seems so small right now. I kinda don't want a distraction to what's going on right now.

I just don’t feel right not finishing out this season. It’s kind of important to next year. So, I’m in favor of starting that format. It’s fair and we should have no issue hanging onto the spot.

Wiz Schedule:

Celtics
Thunder
Sixers
Nets
Bucks
Celtics
Suns
Bucks

That's pretty much as easy a schedule as you could realistically hope for with the bottom 27% of the league not eligible. 3 games against normally non-playoff teams and 2 against a fringe playoff team. 5 of 8 against sub .500 teams.

I respect all of this.

You're a good man Rich. I don't need to say much more.

I understand people not feeling the return of the NBA season, but I for one welcome the distraction. I love sports, and I've missed it badly during these past few months. I think especially with everything going on around us, return of sports does far more good than harm.

I hope KD & Kyrie play, because in terms of recovery time, they're well past due. They'll have a mini training camp, and regular season games to get back in form/shape, and unless they aren't fully healthy, I don't see a reason why they should sit it out.

I'm not all exited about this but still going to watch because I'm NBA junkie. Will let me know if Vohn can be our coach moving forward, everyone has to start big time things at some point.
Don't care if KD and Kyrie going to play. We going to get scrutinized no matter what we do this time, let's see what they going to do next season.

I don't see one easy game on that list if we don't have our two heavy hitters unfortunately. Kings, Wizards, Magic and Blazers will all be playing hard to make the sure that they can qualify for the play in tournament, and I think Portland is probably one of the most dangerous teams in the pool now that they are 100%. The Magic are only a half game behind us and they have given us trouble.

we need our full squad, if not I don't see the point :-?

Things of note:

The NBA has issued the following scheduled dates:

- Training camp: June 30, July 7 travel to Orlando

- 2019-20 season: July 31

- Free agency: Oct. 18

- 2020-21 targets: Nov. 10 training camp, Dec. 1 opening night (can remain fluid)

The draft takes place in October.

That's a really quick turnaround for the league tbh. The NBA Finalists will have like zero rest.

I don’t give a damn what anyone says. I think we will make a legit run to the Semis and ECF this season.

We don’t even know what to expect from Kurucs, Claxton, Musa, Cheese. All of these young guys are getting a fresh start and Kyrie could’ve very well return even if KD does not.

The schedule really isn't bad. Assuming nothing changes, the Clips might be in rest mode by Game 7. And with 2 games vs the Magic + 1 vs the Wizards - we really control our own fate. And the worst case scenario is that we do a play in series vs the Wizards where we 100% control our destiny.

This year's squad was barely a playoff team anyway so I won't be mad if we don't make it. We'd end up with a lottery pick that drastically improves our trade chips.

The magic # is 7 (Nets wins + Washington losses). Get to 7 & there is no risk of needing a play-in.

If KD and Kyrie sit, I am not that optimistic. If they play, all bets are off.

7 wins is a tall task when we have to play the Clippers twice, Boston once and Portland.

That assumes Washington goes 8-0, which they won't.
