Durant out till after the All-Star break and Nets shopping Dinwiddie

Post#1 » by Whiskey Slick » Fri Feb 26, 2021 10:28 pm

Really the title says it all, but I think both are significant enough breaking news that this deserves its own thread.

My take, it stinks to be without KD this long, but a new MRI revealed that he needs more time to get back to 100%, which Nash remains confident that he will based on the new MRI, we just have to wait longer to get him back. I wish that wasn't the case, but getting KD back at 100% with no chance of re-injury is most important of all, so we just have to be patient.

As for shopping Dinwiddie, apparently it's for either a BIG who can rebound and defend the post or a PLUS defensive wing, probably more so the former. I don't know if this can get us Drummond or not, even if we throw in another player or not. I'm pretty lost when it comes to the cap and all of the rules, but if not Drummond I hope it can get us back a BIG who rebounds and defends the post. Nets are interested in John Collins too.

Lastly, just don't trade Dinwiddie for some washed up veteran or average player. We developed Spencer, I love his talent and I have a feeling (from what I've been reading) that he's way ahead of schedule and might make it back for the post season, so if we're trading him, it better be for someone like Drummond. It better be worth it.

The Dinwiddie thing is somewhat expected, but the KD update is definitely a setback. Nash had said that he was close to returning and they expected him before ASB, and now he's ruled out until after ASB. So imo, a setback happened somewhere and the Nets are taking an ultra cautious approach. Also, Dinwiddie for Drummond is not a possibility, there's a huge gap in their salaries.

I’m cool with it, let Durant rest up as much as possible.

I'm a little alarmed that KD needs to be out this long, hopefully it's not more serious than they've let on.

I want this so much. He’s the exact profile we need. Good efficiency able to get around 15ppg. Uber athlete for cuts transition(something we really don’t have besides KD, Kyrie and especially James are elites on the break but they don’t rise above defenses). Can hit the three and wasn’t feed by elite playmakers. Has the ability to handle the ball but use to be a ball mover as a four. Most importantly he’s a well above average defender. Can guard 1-5 and would put him on the opposition biggest physical(or best depending on team. Willing to let Durant guard Lebron but not Giannis) threat. Just a rich man Jeff Green. Seamless fit and meets needs.
Doubt any trade happens before March 20 or so. Whenever buyouts are looking clear. He also has an injury but should be fine and his contract lineups perfectly with the big 3.

I love me some Dinwiddie, but if we can get Aaron Gordon, deal me in.

You can't play around with hamstring issues, so I am glad he is out til after ASB.

Its not worth trading Dinwiddie unless you actually get an important player back.

I'm fully on board with resting KD as much as possible. We need to be overly cautious and save him.

Yeah hamstring issues can linger around and get worse if you come back too soon, maybe it’s a little worse than people thought initially, but Nets are handling it with kid gloves right now, which is the right thing to do imo.

If it were the playoffs, KD would be back by now imo.

We dont need Durant to win regular season games. Kyrie/Harden alone is better then 90% of the league. I'd be fine sitting KD out until the last 2 weeks of the regular season if thats what it takes. hamstring is the worst injury among non-season ending injuries because its so likely to flare up. glad they are being smart. whenever he is ready, they should wait 2 more weeks. then slowly ramp him up. id guess april/may return.

Collins is a beast. if we can get him, we do it. That would be beyond unfair. a beast athleitc 6'10" competitive big who shoots it well from three?

as far as dinwiddie, im 100% onboard trading him if you can get 75% of what he is or better. who knows how good he is post acl or how long it takes him to get full strength. we have a huge 2 year window with real title aspirations and some lingeing roster issues with rim protection and wing defense. if a deal is there, now is not the time to be frugal.... look at ainge and the celtics. they missed a chance to be a contender because of being stingy with assets

Lastly, just don't trade Dinwiddie for some washed up veteran or average player. Drummond is an awful fit. i wouldnt deal him for drummond. i agree overall, dont just trade him for some washed vet who isnt much better then whats in the buyout market. but i also dont need 100% return given his injury and being a rental/bird rights.

i dont view it as a setback... i never though he would be back before the ASB and if he was i felt that was pushing it. id think april at the earliest

yeah... looking at the pistons the only guys id want are ellington and plumlee and thats not worth giving up dinwiddie. Blake is toast to me and no way they would deal grant. the resrt is young guys you cant trust in big games and would likely be out of the playoff rotation

maybe a 3 team deal where detroit gets dinwiddie, a 3rd team gets young talent, and we get a better vet?

I like a 3-team deal where we send out Dinwiddie + filler and get back Tucker/Ellington/Plumlee.

Dinwiddie is highly unlikely to be affordable to us next year, and less likely to play another minute this year. We really need to temper expectations.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's dumped into cap space or a large trade exception. Getting an $11mil TE that's good for a year and many millions of tax relief is probably the best we can get, unless we are taking back somebody's multi-year salary dump.
