Well, Nets were interested in Iggy so Bembry is the closest substitute for that. As for fit, Bembry would probably be part of our 3rd unit and strictly a BBJr insurance. I also suggested signing Ntilikina for this role, but I don't think this signing (roster spot 11-15) makes much difference unless we have long term injury to BBJr.
Thinking about it further, Iggy would not accept a role behind BBJr so there will no doubt be some sort of overlap on court. Maybe that's why he ultimately chose the Warriors?

DarkXaero wrote:Not a big fan of this signing. He does help with a need (wing defense) but he's also not good enough to be getting minutes on a championship team. At this point, you might as well bring RHJ back and there won't be much of a difference between that and this.

Agreed. Not sure I really see how this works as the last player we need insurance for is Bruce.

Love the signing. Bembry is a dog. We now have a defender Dog at PG/SG (Carter), G/F (Bembry), F/C (Johnson). He give you more defense then the guys like Iguodala or Bradley who have fallen off a cliff. Not a great shooter but he isnt a 0 on offense. he is really solid in transition and is aggressive going to the rim. High IQ, passes well. just ask hawks fans who were pissed he went to toronto. He is one of those glue guys you need... he is one of those energy guys who prevents you from losing to detroit on a random tuesday in february cause your starters are sleep walking.
Look the Big3 are gonna carry us on offense. the idea isnt that Bembry or Johnson play 30 minutes. the idea is you can plug any combination of these guys (Carter/bembry/brown/johnson/claxton) into the lineup and get stops. We flat out did not have that last year.
We still have tons of shooting. Kyrie, Harden, Mills, Harris, KD, Blake.
I can see people being iffy on carter cause he is an unknown but Bembry is a G and has been for like 5 years now. He is everything that Pat Beverly pretends to be. He is also a sneak great athlete. he gets up. He is like the SG version of brown, only with a mean streak. he plays tough and angry. He was a menace at st. joes. He has alot of dog in him LOVE this signing.
I don't see Bembry being a part of our rotation in the regular season (unless we don't play Bruce Brown). Nash doesn't like playing more than one non-shooter at a time. For that reason, I would have signed James Ennis for minimum instead. He's not as good of a defender as Bembry but he's a far better shooter and can still play defense.Prokorov wrote:DarkXaero wrote:Not a big fan of this signing. Not many vet min guys are going to give 20+ minutes to a top 3 contending team. Bembry could give us solid minutes and be a top 9 rotation guy in the regular season and see some spot playoff minutes when we need stops.

I have no issue with Bembry because I have seen first hand how much of a dog he was when he played for the Hawks. I just want Marks to add one additional shooter to the roster, preferably at forward.

I agree, If there is one more thing id add it would be a PF who shoots 36% or better from deep. Mike Scott seems to be that guy. milsap obviously too but id think he would want a bigger role. Probably part of why iggy passed
i dont think James johnson is better then the percentages. i think with open looks he would see a career year like green did. not 40% but a big boost over prior highs.
I keep going back to those pistons games we lost. Grant going off. their guards getting to the hoop. we were kind of sleep walking. Brown provided some spart but still got beat. thats not gonna happen with the squad we have now as often.
Marks has been awesome. All we heard all year is how we cant defend and are soft. no more.

Even if we take a slight step back offensively, we are now a two way team. Marks has us primed for a championship run, all we need to do is stay healthy.
