This is a horrific mistake. Marks needs his head examined.

Woj: Nets to waive Bembry

Sean better hope and pray Bruce Brown produces consistently like he did last night or else, I’ll have no problem with it but that is a huge gamble. He is basically betting on Brown and Edwards at this point.

Yeah, Brown will need to be assertive and active as he was last night for this to really balance out. Bembry will probably have a chip on his shoulder when we play the Bucks again too. Stupid, stupid decision. I would have cut Johnson without thinking twice about it.

People might brush this off as just a role player, but to me this is a HUGE deal. We took away our best defender pre-Simmons and added it to one of our rivals, who just lost Divincenzo in a trade, lost PJ tucker to FA and had limited means to defend other top teams like they did a year ago.

The idea that Carter is still here and Bembry is not makes my stomach turn.

I dont care what money/tax is saved cutting Bembry over Carter or Brown. Meanwhile we have 12 centers... this is a horrific basketball decision.

i liked Bembry but i think he's being overstated. If he isn't shooting 41% from 3 right now he's not nearly as popular. He's a career 28% shooter, so the chances of him continuing at that clip are lower than Bruce Brown (career 30% from 3) shooting 41% from here out.

I'm not betting on either outcome and in 2 days Bruce Brown has showed why he was the guy who got kept. there's just no upside with bembry. he's alan anderson.

jj is a much different player and i dont know why he's getting so much hate. he's playing the jeff green role from last year. he may not be playing it as well but it's got it's got a place on the roster at the moment.

it just sucks they couldn't make a trade to prevent cutting either of them.

And don't forget, in order to make Kessler available for the playoffs we'll need to release someone.

that's looking like less of a foregone conclusion.

the first 9* guys in the rotation are probably set and the rest of the season is a battle royale for #10+ between Claxton/Kessler/Blake/JJ. And if Joe ends up healthy it's #11+.

*= Kyrie, Kd, Simmons, S3th, Mills, Drummond, LMA, Cam, Brown.

Yeah he does. Nothing personal, but Kessler provides more value to us as a 3 + D wing. We already have LMA, AD, Blake, Claxton, and Sharpe at C and Ben will be our Point PF so there's no reason to really have him on the playoff roster.

IMO, Johnson is the odd man out because Carter has 1 year left guaranteed.

Starters: Kyrie/Seth/KD/Simmons/AD (center is dependent on match up)

Bench: Mills/Cam/Brown/Kessler/LMA/Blake/Harris/Claxton

Carter and Sharpe most likely will wave towels and keep seats warm.

Honestly, this roster looks a lot better now. Scoring, shooting, rebounds, and defense. Cam is really coming into his own as a 6th man scorer.

agree with the starters and agree with the towel wavers.

re: the bench it just depends how deep they extend.

Mills is the 6th man.
LMA is the best scoring big on the roster.

so those guys make the 7 man rotation a lock. Harris would be in this group too to make it 8 if he's healthy, but i doubt that so i don't count him.

After that Brown is the best defender off the bench, brings energy, and can handle the ball and Cam has played well enough i think he's earned a spot in the rotation even if some nights he doesn't get a ton of minutes. if they are down and need a scorer he's the guy.

So that's your top 9 with the 4 bench players being 3 small guys with position flex and 1 F/C.

i think good Kessler wins a spot in that 7-10 range, possibly even taking Brown's spot.
Bad Kessler possibly falls behind Claxton/Blake/JJ far enough that he's a towel waver with Sharpe/Carter.

Nash will probably tighten the rotation up so i doubt Kessler gets heavy playoff mins

right so that's where it's probably a coin flip right now whether or not they waive someone for him in the playoffs.

basically 25 games left to prove he's better than JJ or Blake to need to be activated for the playoffs at one of their expense. if none of the 3 are in the rotation any way entering the playoffs, waiving one of them to have the kessler option doesn't really make sense unless he's played a lot better than them - which he hasn't recently.
