POLL: Nets flame-out = Steve's out, or Nets fight on = Nash stays on?

No game threads for a while with the ASG break upon us, so pardon me if I start something new.

Call me selfish or a glutton for punishment, but I'm hoping to see more Nets b'ball post-RS -- prolonging the agony, so to speak -- and watch the players try to figure it out amongst themselves in the POs (which COULD save Nash's job), rather than being one-shot-ted out of the play-in (which MIGHT get Nash fired immediately).

What's your pick from the poll? :eyebrows:

Hmm, I wanted to vote twice, actually:

✓ - Fire Nash tout suite (more like a couple months ago). Replace him with a rotting jack-'o-lantern for an immediate upgrade. Or Jacques Vaughn.

✓ - If the Nets wind up winning the trophy, I'd have no choice but to let him rock on.

I'm not sure I'm reading the question correctly, is it what we THINK will happen, or what we WANT to happen?

I voted based on the former, and my gut tells me that we'll flame out in the 1st round. Not that we can't win a chip, just that 1 and done is a plurality leader. I'm as optimistic as a Nets fan can rationally be IMO, given the information we've seen thus far. IF we're all healthy and full participants, IF Simmons becomes the best version of himself (which we've yet to see in Philly), if Nash starts being an additive member of this organization, we going to the Finals, and giving Phoenix a real run for their money. I don't think that we can assume that those IF's are all going to work in our favor.

Even saying all that, I'm scared that losing in the 1st round (an unmitigated disgrace for a team with our talent) won't be enough for the Godfather KD to allow Marks to fire Steve. There will be excuses about injuries and the midseason trade, and Steve will be the proud steward of the dying embers of Durant's prime.

Poll settings updated accordingly to allow for this.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about this... It's actually the latter.

Based on the dissatisfaction of many with Nash, would people actually prefer to see the Nets eliminated early, if that's what it'll take to convince the FO to seek out more competent coaching options? Or are people actually willing to suffer through watching our frustrating style of b'ball for as long as possible, even if a deep PO run (or better) could likely strengthen Nash's job security?

The varying degrees of severity in the poll options sort of implies just how much punishment one is willing to endure with watching the new-look Nets, or how much faith/optimism one has that the longer our run goes, the more the team will start to figure it out.

That's definitely a horrifying thought. :eek2:

My prediction: The Nets will lose in the play in round and not make the playoffs, dealing a horrific blow to the franchise.

It's difficult to define a basement for this team, it's true.

The fact that we could face Toronto or New York in the play-in round could further limit us, given Kyrie's refusal to become a full participant. Maybe the world floats to him and us with a mandate revision, but if not, we're in a rough spot. His decision is bigger than basketball, and in a way I respect his dedication. If it weren't for his history up to this point, I'd probably respect it more. As it is, I can't help but tie it to his pattern of behavior as a self saboteur. And it seems we're tied as a franchise to his masochism.

Oh well, don't ALL of us want to win a championship? We're all die-hard Nets fans, right, that's why we're here!

I am not a fan of Nash, but I'd gladly sign him to a 5-year extension if we win it all this season. Rings are just so difficult to achieve, especially the first one for a franchise.

Which means KD will be thru with Kyrie and KD will get his ass out of here. It will take a playoff/play in loss to rid of Kyrie. Kyrie won’t like the karma; Nets WILL get another star this off-season as well. Simmons/KD is just preparation for a new big three which will be more reliable and available.

If it takes that to happen to wake KD up to the fact that Kyrie is not all in on winning, then i welcome it.

Toronto would absolutely beat us. I have no doubts about it. Nurse owns Nash

Having taken too long to sign the extension offer before Marks pulled it, it's going to be real interesting to see if Kyrie chooses to opt out of his final season.

In which case, I could definitely see Marks with a lot more leverage to make the best bball decision, and KD a bit more likely to concede 'okay it was fun, but just didn't work out; find me another star who wants to be here, and we'll see what happens.'

If Nets win a ring this year and Kyrie opts out, that would be the best move for us. We can move on the process of ridding Harris' contract along with the picks for someone else. Mitchell/Lillard are all possible candidates on the move this off season.

If Nets get it together and win a title, and assuming Kyrie plays, how do you possibly see Marks not extending him? Because he'll have proved that it works, and you generally don't mess with a winning formula.
