GT: NBA Play In Tournament Rd: Nets vs. Cavs 7pm EST (TNT)
I don't care who gets upset, but the Nets have not played well during this win streak against teams that aren't good and we have been an absolute strategic mess on defense to the point where I have no confidence in us winning this game. The coaching is a handicap, so it will come down to the players executing offensively:
-Patty, Seth and Kessler have to make their open looks
-The team must take care of the ball. KD and Kyrie cannot commit dumb turnovers.
-KD has to be prepared for the hard double teams
-We must push the pace. Brown, Irving and Durant need to get us up the floor quickly.
I give up on defense. Nash and this coaching staff is so bad it is a forgone conclusion that Darius Garland is going to get a ton of open shots.
Sean Marks should be fired. The 2nd highest payroll in the sport and we're in the play in tournament. KD has been run into the ground and the risk of injury has risen due to fatigue. All of this is on him.
Look at what Ty Lue has done with the Clippers? 90% of their salary cap was out this year and those guys balled hard on both ends to make the qualifier. The Nets look completely unprepared for playoff basketball. I am not going to sit here and sugarcoat anything.

Lets go Nets!!!!
Gotta hit the open looks and hopefully create and build a big lead to rest KD/Ky a bit....
KD definitely gotta recognize the double coming and pass the ball quickly enough hence his teammates on the floor need to see it coming too, give KD open looks for passing out of it. Come on, play strong!
Hopefully Drummond won't get schooled by Mobley tonight.

Although I am not expecting it...we may change our defensive strategy. Most teams notch up their D in the playoffs, and with all the pundits out their harping on our D, I am hopeful things change.
Having Seth back is huge. The one/two punch of Dre and Nic is going to play a huge role for us.
Most likely going to be a close game, probably coming down to limiting our turn overs and hitting our free throws..
Let's Go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of people already has us penciled in as the 7th seed. We have played like trash when we are favorited to win. Hope they handle business tonight. Just win and leave the game healthy.

Cavs +8.5 is absurd. I think we will be lucky to get away with a win.
We need an off shooting night from Garland, okoro AND love and we need a minimum of 75 from Kyrie/KD just to be close. on top of that we need good shooting from mills and dragic.
I think we lose, and worse I think we get down early after playing with 0 urgency and giving up a combined 20 points in threes/transition layups within the 1st 6 minutes.
Honesly, Kyrie going nuclear is all i see saving us. We have shown the ability to lose even with KD dropping 50.
super pessimistic on this one. if we do lose, hopefully its enough to get marks and or nash fired

KD wont magically fix his turnover issues overnight. we need to keep him out of those situations.

Re: GT: NBA Play In Tournament Rd: Nets vs. Cavs 7pm EST (TNT)
These games are scary cause anyone can get hot and just totally swing it. We've also been straight up bad at home. On the bright side:
Kevin Durant + Kyrie Irving on the floor together has a NET RTG of +9 in 30 minutes a game. Only 2 man group better in the league is Harden and Embiid
36-19 when KD plays.
Cleveland isn't really equipped to guard KD. I expect a lot of doubling which for the most part this year has led to some pretty good offense. The turnover worries I've seen on here are way overblown. Especially when we actually have shooters on the floor.
The key to this game is keeping Bruce Brown on Garland. Last game when Cleveland went big - we put Bruce on Markannen and Seth on Garland. It got him going immediately. We have to be careful switching Drummond onto him too. We also need to avoid these random droughts we've been having. I'm sick of these sub 24 point quarters. I'm sick of Nash not calling timeouts during them.
We badly need to win this one. Outside of avoiding an elimination game - we REALLY need the rest. We win today and we don't play again until Sunday. We can start preparing for Boston. We'll have 5 straight wins going into the playoffs. We'll feel good. If we lose, we play again Friday. Against a high powered offense.

I put down $150 on Cavs +8.5. Unless Vegas knows something I don't, we haven't played well enough to win by double digits over a Cavs team that is way better than the trash teams we struggled to beat during the end of the season.

I'd love to see what our offensive rating is on possesions when Durant is double teamed. I'd be astonished if it was just negative, but pretty heavy negative.
I'd also love to see the % of durant passes deflected or stolen when passing out of the double team. Again I'd be surprised if it wasnt among the most of any high volume player.
Forget who is on Garland, we need to do some doubling of our own and get the ball out of his hands. make okoro and mobley take a ton of threes. dont let garldand get going. without garland they have no offense creation and they are not a team capable of surrounding garland with too much shooting.
there should be occasional double teams when he crosses half court. Blitzes on pick and rolls, that kind of thing

I think you're being way too pessimistic. We literally just played them. Garland went off. Kyrie was ice cold. We played terrible for half the game and won by 11. We don't need everything to go right just to have a chance. We just need to be solid. Not saying anything is a guarantee but Cleveland's been REALLY bad recently.

Eh I don't buy the KD thing at all. He has his moments where he struggles and throws wild passes. Definitely. He usually calms down once he sees what the defense is doing and gets it together. If stopping KD was that easy, he wouldn't be KD.
It's also MUCH harder to double him properly when Kyrie and Seth are on the floor. Some teams have taken advantage of our non-shooting lineups where he's forced into tough decisions. Now, he can just swing it to Bruce Brown who will either find an elite shooter or attack the rim.

Edwards, Seth and Mills need to hit their open shots, KD and Kyrie both need to be KD and Kyrie, with no Allen, Drummond and Claxton should dominate in the paint. If things get stagnant don’t be afraid to see if guys like Duke Jr and Blake can come in and provide a spark.

Slightly OT.....That incident in Brooklyn where someone put on a gas mask lit off some smoking device and shot I think 5 people was right in Sunset Park, was very close to our training center only a few blocks away. Where our team should be gathering today for pre game activities.
I hate to say it but NYC is returning to the old days......and if they don't put a plan together to stop rampant crime, it will get so out of hand it will take a long long to get it livable again.

I noticed it in the finals vs the raptors. i thought they did a crazy good job on him. then noticed it early with the Nets and was like "Huh..?" then it became clear it was effective. it was minimized because we were so good offensively and he played off ball a lot it wasnt a big issue.
All it takes is a good opposing coach to have the balls to double, knowing even if there are shooters around KD you double because most times even fi he does find the open guy its slow or tipped where you can still rotate.
Its something ive watched for every game the past 1.5+ years. its not just anecdotal. ive pointed it out in most game threads. its mostly glaring. ive searched but cant find the stats on it. hard double team gives him fits.

I'm not calling you crazy or anything. We've all seen it. I just think it's the sort of thing that stands out when it happens but is easy to ignore when he handles the doubles properly. I have a ton of respect for KD and I don't think there's one way to stop him or slow him down. He might struggle for a quarter or a half but I'm confident he'll figure any defense out. Especially if you surround him with players that'll make the defense pay if you play that way.
Stats are going to be tough to find because there's so many different types of doubles and ways to help.
Not sure about the Raptor game though. He played like 12 minutes before tearing his Achilles and he was coming off a 4 week layoff. I've noticed that the doubles effect him more when he first comes back from injury. Like his scoring is always on point but his passing and game management takes a while to catch up.

This team is so hot and cold, it's hard to predict which team will show up.
Like many have said, It's a forgone conclusion we'll be outcoached against every opponent.
With that being said, it would be CATASTROPHIC to lose to this Cavs team without the Fro.
We gotta take care of business tonight. I'll take an ugly W.

KD's turnovers have been pretty high though, last game he had 6 and he's averaging four or more in the last ten games. Teams are absolutely betting on forcing TOs against him.
In a 1 game elimination scenario he has to be pretty much his best self and we need the team to follow suit. We can't commit 20 turnovers like we did against Indiana and expect to win.

Eye test don't back that up because of our philosophy on D, specifically switching that leads to chaos. I just hope we can be OK in that department, even if we 15ish type team on that end, I think we legit chip contender.
My main concern is determination of this team, and by saying determination I mean entire 48 min. I mean this team loves to half ass games no matter who we play. They so cocky and feeling entitled it's maddening and mind blowing.
Just give me 48 minutes of hard fought game. I'll live with the result.

fun stat. but also last 10 games we have given up 120+ 7 times (well 6 + one game at 119)
i dont buy that we have been playing well defensively.
