It looks like the teams that survive late into the postseason have quality role players outside of their stars. Here is a deal that I think maximizes our chance next season:

The Nets leverage their guard depth, TPE's and cheap youth, to strengthen the frontcourt. Jonas adds interior toughness, and can stretch the floor. Royce is a versatile defender and improves the flow of his team's offense. Rudy is a reclamation project.

So, as a Nets fan, would you do it?

I would do it in a heartbeat. Valanciunas at the 5 is exactly what we need.

I like Valanciunas but I'm meh on the rest. That 2nd unit is not an upgrade at all from what the current roster has. Other than Mills all the other players will struggle to score in a playoff setting.

Gay is washed, O'Neale is fine but has most been mostly underwhelming during the playoffs.

I rather bet on Kessler's development and get another wing in a different trade or free agency.

If the team can get Jonas by himself then yes to this trade. Also between Curry and Mills, Curry should be the one kept IMO. Better 3pt shooter, ball handler and on one of the best contracts in the league. He probably has more value than O'Neale tbh.

Rudy is old friends with Kevin, and more importantly, he can fill the stretch big off the bench role. Yes, he had a poor season. Rumor is he and Quin did not get along. If you look at last season in San Antonio, he was good in his role. In any case, absorbing him is part of the value return, to help Utah stay under the luxury tax. If we can rehabilitate his value in the right role, even better.

Royce is the kind of rotation guy we need. Low usage, low mistake, high energy, high effort.

Idk man, I saw a few Utah games and Gay looked slow and labored but as you say maybe he can be rejuvenated in a small bench role. He's also a Brooklyn native so that would be cool. I think he's too small to be a stretch 5 tho. Much better as a backup wing 4 IMO.

I'm meh on Royce as I really don't think his defense is that good, especially given he makes 9.5M but won't be upset if he is on the team in a bench role.

Na i don't think Val is the right center here. He is very good don't get me wrong, but he's kinda slow and is a back to the basket type of center that will probably be taken out in the playoffs for somebody that can defend better. Gay is washed, O'neal would be great here tho.

Good question, I really wish we still had Jarret Allen. But let me really think about this... I'm more into defensive type centers and guys that can switch on defense. I don't think a post up slow type of center is what we need, we need guys that can get up the floor in a hurry. I really like Sharpe but he's still young and he hasn't done enough yet to be a starter now.

Gobert would be an awesome get but that's almost impossible to happen. I like Myles Turner, he would be a good fit here but he doesn't rebound well enough. Maybe take a chance on Mo Bamba, Clint Capella would be another nice fit. Thomas Bryant too but idk how we get him. We're going to have to include Joe Harris and/or Curry contract etc.. to get a real starting center.

it's going to be tough to get a legit starting center but we have to figure it out. I'm not comfortable rolling out Drummond as the starting center next year. I would definitely re sign LMA because dude is automatic from mid range but he's good to be out for half the season.

Simmons is our Point Center. Claxton will be retained. Sharpe is third string plus there's the rare KD Center lineup. We don't need to prioritize a C. This team needs a young Dragic, i.e. a PG with adequate size that can run a half court offense, defend adequately and hit the 3. I don't see Simmons running the half court offense consistently.

While not perfect, DLo is in the block. The thought of Joe+Mills for DLo is conflicting. DLo is young and expiring. He could be part of a reboot with Simmons. He hasn't been nearly as good since he's been separated from Atkinson though.

good point, but we're not starting Simmons at center no matter how you put it. That's only when we try to play fast or go small. There's no way you put Simmons on Embiid, KAT, Joker they will abuse him. Heck even lesser players like Nurkic, Val, Gobert, Vucevic, BAM etc.. it's too much of a tall task for him.

I can definitely see him in the Draymond Green role but that depends on the matchup. No way he's starting at center for a full year then playoffs. You are right tho, we don't need to prioritize in a center but we do need a capable one. And we definitely need a tough bruiser down there or we're going to get punked especially in the playoffs. We played soft last year.

I like we're you're head is at tho. I would rather a guy like Terry Rozier as to DLo but Hornets aren't giving him up. A guy that can defend tough and make plays on offense ala Marcus Smart would be huge for the culture here. I heard Coby White is on the block, he kinda fits that mold. Ricky Rubio, Brogdon ? just off the top of my head.
