Nets sign Yuta Watanabe

Post#1 » by MrDollarBills » Sun Aug 28, 2022 10:02 pm

Good pick up. Watanabe is a player I've liked ever since he played for our summer league team in his rookie year. 6'9, good defensive instincts and can hit threes.

I just read the article on the wiretap. How TF do we still have 5 roster spots after signing Watanabe?

That aside, good luck and congrats to Yuta! Hope he is another diamond in the ruff.

I like it. Presume it's a non guaranteed camp invite type of deal but he brings youth, athleticism and size which we sorely needed last season.

Everytime I watch him I feel his production should be higher than what he actually puts up. Raptors did have a surplus of guys like him so maybe he gets a chance to put it together here.

Best case scenario - plays the Bruce Brown role with James Johnson size.

Yo, real talk. Don’t sleep on this lad! Shoots the 3, can facilitate some, able AND willing defender… plus he has been working in the Raps/Nurse system for a few. Great pick up

Some of those are two spots I believe.

I think we only have 2 actual spots left.

You can have up to 20 for camp; 15 + 2 2ways for the regular season. We're at 14 plus the 2 2 ways. Of the 14, Sumner and Yuta are not guaranteed.

Good signing! Yuta is long, deceptively athletic, can play D and can shoot from deep. Reminds me a lot of former Net, Bostjan Nachbar.

Edwards better step up his game cuz Yuta could pull a fast one over him.

We also just signed David Duke Jr to the second two way slot.

Maybe a little Kieth Van Horn in him, too. Tho I reckon Yuta defends better.

Nets are in advanced talks with Markief Morris. Would love that signing; the wing position would be set. Mills/Curry can sub for each other at appropriate times while we get players that can defend and shoot. It’s a shame we didn’t make similar moves last year but hopefully Marks learned from his mistakes: No reason this team can’t win it all.

yeah adding Morris and Watanabe are good moves. We still lack another center though.

Any idea what this "other things in mind" wording is referring to?

Could also mean they still be looking at KD offers. I read that Sumner and Yotu don't count against the cap and can be waived any minute.

Claxton/Sharpe
KD/Morris/Watanabe
Harris/Warren/Edwards
Irving/O'Neale/Curry/Thomas
Simmons/Mills/Sumner

We've got a log jam at SG and we need another center.

Center is still a priority.

Get me Dwight and I think we are basically set.

I don't think you would find many raptor fans that disliked Yuta. Filled his rill, worked hard, played hard, and just a good guy. Not sure why they made it non-guaranteed but that should take care of itself ...or he catches on elsewhere. But he can play and learned a lot in 2 years.

No. We need a table setting PG. There's no need for another C, since Simmons will see a lot of time there.
