Nets vs Spurs Game thread - Irving Out

Post#1 » by bubonicphoniks » Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:51 pm

Nets come into this one after two poor second half performances which ultimately lost them the game. With an 8pm EST tipoff, will the Nets minus Kevin Durant be able to gain some positive momentum against a poor Spurs team?

Brooklyn Nets 27-15
(2-3 in last 5 games)

San Antonio Spurs 13-31
(0-5 in last 5 games)

***Kyrie Irving was also a late addition to the injury report.

Irving (Calf) - Out

Ben Simmons should be a go.

INJURY REPORT (Nets): Kevin Durant - Out (MCL Sprain), Kessler Edwards - Out (G League Assignment), David Duke Jr. - Out (G League - Two Way), Dru Smith - Out (G League - Two Way)

I actually like it. He didnt play well the last 2 games. He looked tired.

Could also give the rest of the team the chance to gel. Possibly open up mins for Cam/Sumnter.

I agree , Kyrie was not himself in the losses in particular the last one he phoned it in.

This is good opportunity for the hungry players to get a chance to get their minutes.

Basically a must win if we want to stay afloat as a serious contender.

Our 3 point shooting will be crucial. if we dont make them were cooked.

Agree. Spurs are awful, it's a must win even with 7/11 both out.

Something doesn't seem right about the Kyrie injury. Feels like shades of Harden frustration last year. I fear it might be him retaliating against Ben's absence last game or he's looking for an excuse after two poor performances as the alpha.

Horrible. And Yuta just got hurt.

Well, this is adversity. If this team is going to win a title, they need to find ways to win.

I had the same thought.

This team is nothing without KD. As soon as he goes down these dudes start to unravel.

I really don't want to watch this anymore. Missing every 3.

Simmons sprints to the rim and can't finish easy layups.

Its a nightmare.

Can we play Cam Thomas? We NEED someone who can score.

I lean towards thinking Kyrie starts to unravel, which causes chaos and a ripple effect through the whole team.

Damn we in trouble.

Ben is nowhere near where we need him to be. Same goes for TJ. We should be blowing out doors right now with them two running this team.

TJ won't fetch more than full MLE on open market from what I've seen this far.

Ben happy to be paid. He won't fetch even that.

So Cam has to be part of a future trade or a real locker room problem. Is there any other explanation as to why he's in the dog house of two separate coaches, despite excelling at the one thing we need most with KD and Kyrie out?
