Giannis for... Capspace?

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Mon Apr 28, 2025 6:44 pm

Hey all!

I know we Nets fans have been through our share of hijacked, half baked rebuilds. There is a lot of concern about a potential Giannis trade, longing for the slow, steady rebuilding path instead. I can appreciate that, however...

Giannis is a 1 of 1. The Bucks are horribly built, with a subpar coach, a costar who refuses to play well alongside him and is now injured, and past prime role players. He STILL dragged that squad to the 5th seed, it says more about him to me. Bring him here, with younger, more talented starters around him, and I think you'll see us dominate and win.

What's the cost? Some say Milwaukee will want a young All-Star plus picks. If it is then we have no chance, but I do not see that on the market, other than Zion (if you want to call him a young Allstar). Memphis won't move JJJ, Houston won't move Sengun, OKC certainly won't Chet.

Here's my alternative, which I think we'll be the best return that MIL can get, while being fair to all:

BRK gets Antetokounmpo, George

MIL gets Claxton, McCain, #19, #26, #27

PHI gets C. Johnson, A. Jackson

Both the Bucks and Sixers drop over $25mil from their payroll, while we leverage about $52mil of ours this summer, by absorbing Paul George. Yes, I know. But, if he can bounce back, he's a great complementary player, and Giannis can join and not feel like he's the only adult in the room. We also keep our lottery pick this year, which may turn into another immediate starter or rotation player. Afterward we look like this:

Paul, Thomas, George, Antetokounmpo, Sharpe
Fears, Whitehead, Wilson, Clowney, Wolf

What do you think? I say it's a very tough team, not too expensive and we still have a LOAD of young assets of we want to consolidate for another star later.

Paul George looks completely washed & his contract is arguably the worst in the league right now

It’s actually the 5th odds maker in Vegas booking Giannis to Brooklyn.

The last time this happened it led to the Nets being the front runners to KD 24 hours before he made his decision.

I'm hopeful!

I think that Houston could flood the market with an offer, after getting bounced from the playoffs this weekend. And I know that Miami can make a decent offer with just Ware, Jovic, Jaquez and capspace, without Herro or Bam. But something tells me Milwaukee wants our deal. Maybe they need more incentive, but I don't think we'll have to sell the farm to get Giannis. We'll have enough future assets left to follow up and get a complementary star.

Yeah, I know that absorbing PG13 is a Rated R topic. You may not even want to trade for Giannis, and that's fair. But IF we were to, just imagine IF we did, would you rather trade our current lottery pick and another future Nets 1st to go along with the outgoing package, for Giannis alone? Because that's what it would take, C Johnson, Claxton, all 4 of our 2025 1sts and a 2027 Nets 1st to get in the market value.

Or, do you prefer this way, where we keep our current lotto pick, and dont have to give a future pick? Because what we're doing by taking George is giving Milwaukee McCain, something they'll need in a rebuild with Dame out of commission.
