Break It Up?

It's been a while... just from what I've seen of this team this season, if we are playing at this level then it's time to break it all up and start over. No realistic trade we can make will make us a championship level squad - and if we're not that, what's the point?
We missed out on KG, Marion, and Gasol. One of those 3 would have moved us to the next level, but Rod couldn't get it done. The era is over. Let's move Kidd and Carter for expirings / youth.
Moving Carter:
NJ - Memphis:
In:
Kwame Brown
Hakim Warrick
Casey Jacobson
Out:
Vince Carter
Why for them?
Kwame's expiring at the end of the season, and Memphis currently has no star player to draw attendance. Say what you will about that, but he will bring in the fans. Also allows Rudy Gay to develop a more well rounded game until Carter leaves and Gay takes over as the main option. Warrick is the price of doing buisness. Jacobson is filler.
Why for us:
Kwame's expiring at the end of the season. 9 mill off our books.
Warrick can be groomed to start at the 3, allowing RJ to move to the 2 - which with his shooting range he is a better fit for. Also allows us to start a solid defensive backcourt of Kidd - RJ - Warrick. Casey Jacobson is a legitimate perimeter threat - and having his hot girlfriend (anyone remember his draft day interview?) around will surely improve team morale.
Jason Kidd:
We do NOTHING.
We don't trade him. If he complains, we sit him until he stops complaining.
Why?
Kidd will get us nothing of value in return. He will bring back long term contracts that a team in our situation does not need. If he wants to contribute, fine. If not, he can go screw himself. No title for Kidd, thank you very much. If he didn't want to be here, he could have gone to the Spurs.
New rotation:
Williams / Swift
Boone / Krstic
Warrick / Nachbar
RJ / Wright / Jacobson
Marcus Williams / Darrell Armstrong
Being paid to sit on the bench:
Jason Kidd
Kidd expires at the end of next season. 21 million off our books. Combined with Kwame, and the expirings of Swift (6.2 mill player option next year, then he's done), Magloire (4 mill), Nachbar (2.5 mill)...
Our only remaining contracts would be RJ, Warrick, M. Williams, S. Williams, Wright and Krstic (if we resign them, which we could likely do on the cheap), and our draft picks in the next 2 years... putting us in the area of 35-40 million and giving us enough space to really reboot this franchise.
Thoughts?

Kidd will be a Hall of Famer so why have him in the Nets where he will never get a so wanted ring, remember he is 34,with all those crazy moves he'll turn 40 and still be in a team "DOOMED TO MEDIOCRITY"
if we really want to go back to the FINALS we need a COMPLETE rebuild, having the one who helped us get there 6 years ago will take us anywhere
btw i'm a Kidd fan if you think i hate him

I agree that we need a complete rebuild. However, the best way to do that is not to trade Kidd. Jason Kidd currently has about a year and a half left on a 20 million dollar / year contract. If we trade him now - we will undoubtedly take back players in return that have longer, expensive contracts. We will then be stuck with them.
Keeping Kidd for 2 years until his contract is up allows us to remove nearly 20 million dollars from our cap figure, which allows us to sign free agents and make moves we could ordinarily no longer make?
Remember when the Marbury to NY trade went down? Everyone thought NY got the best of the deal, but moving those contracts - Penny and Marbury - allowed the Suns to sign Steve Nash as a free agent.
The Wizards cost cutting in trading Strickland, Richmond and J. Howard in the early 00s allowed them to sign Gilbert Arenas.
The Nets are better served by having the cap space. Let's look at the free agents potentially available to them if they follow my route -
Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer, Jermaine O'Neal, Elton Brand, Gilbert Arenas, Shawn Marion...
Any of those players coming to the swamp in a Kidd deal?

Or save a year of rebuilding, forget the playoffs this season and trade Kidd for expirings and picks (Like the Griz did with Pau). Then we have a high lottery pick and have cap room to be in the running in one of the best free-agent markets in years.
I initially didn't understand the Kwame offer for Kidd ... only now he's been moved, I see opportunity lost. But that ship has passed.

Would a VC for Rasho, Dixon, Joey G. provide the expirings the Nets need? Rasho and Joey expire next year Dixon this year

+1
I'd like to see a complete FA list though for the summer when Kidd's deal is up. Not sure how effective rebuilding through free agency will be - who's going to want to come here?
Any way, I think the team is already moving in this direction - Swift's next year is only a player option as opposed to Twin's. Also, Twin's deal was for more guaranteed money for Swift. Regardless, Swift's contract is off our books at the same time as Kidd's.

Yes, actually. However, Joey Graham has a qualifying offer - according to hoopshype... what's the status of that?
Either way, it's a decent trade. I'd ask for either Graham and a 2nd rounder or Carlos Delfino in substitution for that... but a solid proposal for where I think the Nets need to move.
The big question.... why would Toronto take Vince back?

They wouldn't.

I'm sure the mavs traded nash to suns for finley. I will stand corected if not true. Perhaps your saying that the penny and starbury trade freed up capspace to sign nash to an extension

You are incorrect.
Finley originally came to the Mavs in exchange for Jason Kidd.
Finley was drafted by the Suns, and actually played on the Mavs alongside Steve Nash for a few years.
Nash was signed as a free agent:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/transactions?team=pho&year=2004See July 15th, 2004:
Signed guard Steve Nash, who had been with the Dallas Mavericks, to a multi-year contract;
The Penny / Marbury trade freed up enough cap space for Phoenix to sign Nash away from Dallas. Cuban declined to resign him for fears of Nash's back acting up in his elder years, as well as a desire to move in a more defensive-oriented direction.

Sweet I wasn't sure. But i knew the penny and starbury trade freed up capspace for nash. But I couldn't believe Cuban let Nash walk for nothing.
Thanks for clearing that up

Nash's value was a lot less when he left Dallas... before the MVPs.

Wolves fan here.
The one Net I'd like to see in the Twin Cities is Jefferson. I know that logically he's the guy you might keep if you're rebuilding (since he's young enough to contribute to a team that could win again in a few years.) But take a look at the Wolves' assets:
Ratliff (huge expiring)
Walker (expires next year)
Gerald Green
Rashad McCants
Ryan Gomes
Sebastian Telfair
Wolves' pick this year
All those guys have positive value as either young guys who could improve or big contracts who are expiring. I'm in the minority on this, but I would trade the Wolves pick this year because I think the Woofies are young enough, and there aren't any franchise centers in the top 3 of this draft (which is a huge area of need for the Wolves.)
Again, assuming you're rebuilding, any interest in Jefferson for a combination of those guys? Just curious.

I'd like to keep Jefferson and rebuild with him .
I'd only trade him for serious talent , which i don't see here or something that makes us contenders , which i don't see either .

I can understand that position, but again IF you're rebuilding I'd categorize Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley as serious talent. Considering the market for big stars these days I just thought I'd ask.

Ah I just missed you included the wolves pick .
I don't know what kind of protection ? Not to heavy and i'd take it .
But on the other hand would the wolves do it ?
