Marcus Williams

With a Kidd trade seeming close and Devin Harris on his way to New Jersey it seems as if Marcus Williams would be on the outs.

Right now he's out of the rotation (granted that should change if Kidd goes) but he'll likely want out anyway.

A lot of people on this board had been talking about him as having a ton of talent etc... and he might but he was a late first round draft pick and I was one of those people that said if he can come close to MJax (to whom he was being compared) I'd be more than happy but it hasn't happened.

Marcus needs playing time and he's likely not going to get it in New Jersey, granted if Harris is going to be brought along slowly it would be a perfect time to showcase him.

He really needs playing time and he probably should've been playing in the D-League sooner since his decision making skills/basketball IQ leave a lot to be desired.

I think no one can question the guy's talent but when he takes long perimeter jumpers, doesn't use the shot clock efficiently, dribbles too much, doesn't make great passes etc... just shows he's a bit immature at this point.

Nevetheless I think it would be good to showcase him and maybe move him along with Carter if possible.

I don't know about Williams. I think he'll be gone. IMO Thorn would like to keep him, but he'll eventually leave.

Until Harris gets established, this window is Marcus big chance to show he deserves more than spot minutes. Kidd, outside of his microfracture surgery, plays major minutes (37 minutes/gm), and never misses a game (except for his 'migrane').

Devin Harris aims for first game after break
Devin Harris - G - DAL - Feb. 13 - 12:51 pm et

Mavericks point guard Devin Harris (ankle) is hopeful that he'll be available for the team's first game following the All-Star break.
Athletic trainer Casey Smith will give Harris treatment on his ankle throughout the break and put him through workouts on three of the four days. It should take Harris a game or two to get up to speed, but it sounds like his rehab is going very well. Feb. 13 - 12:51 pm et

Doesn't seem like Marcus is going to get more than 2 or 3 games to show his stuff. Maybe 5 games at the outset, if Frank wants Harris to learn his "offense".

i like devin. I think of all feasible PG's, we have to be happy it was him if kidd had to go.

Also, should we buy out Stack? who will hold down the fort when vince sits? Dump stack and pick up Hassan Adams again? or trade for Pietrus?

If VC gets traded, I would play M. Will at SG.

PICK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT LONG!!!!!!!!!

Marcus Williams has proven the GM's who passed on him right. He's really not that good. He's done nothing to increase his trade value in his 1.5 seasons with the Nets, and in fact I'd say it's went down a little bit. He's worth no more than a 1st in the 20+ range.

I think Marcus may of just lost his role with this team. However, we HAVE to keep him this year, and make sure he gets minutes and get his value up and trade him in the offseason.

I don't know why you guys would trade him. Keep both and let them battle it out. Or go 2 quality PG style like the Raptors.

Marcus Williams > Devin Harris as a pure point guard. He has the chance to be better as well. Trading Marcus right now just because of this deal would be foolish and can potentially bite you in the arse.

While Devin Harris has shown potential, I don't think we're talking about a fully entrenched starter here guys. I think he's "on the cusp" of being there, but he's not at the level of Paul, Deron Williams, or even Brandon Roy where you say "yeah, no way he isn't starting". I think he's still around the same level as someone like Felton (with Harris higher).

Let Marcus start (since he's been with the team and should be more familiar with the offense, plus Devin is coming off injury anyway), and Harris come off the bench.

May the best PG win, and the loser is trade bait. Win-win situation for the Nets.

I know a few teams that'll go for him.

I have no faith in Marcus Williams or his future. He plays no defense (can't actually). His shot is perpetually off and he has a tendency to overdribble. I don't have a problem keeping him and giving him playing time but I don't expect anything out of him. He is at best a backup PG in this league.
