I've never seen something so ridiculous (NBA trade wise).

I don't think this kills it. This happens all of the time. Stackhouse shouldn't have said anything, but it happens all of the time. We will see what happens but there is no question Cuban has **** the bed on this one in more then one way.

Honestly keeping Kidd wouldn't be the worst thing in world. Harris a nice piece but not a difference maker. Plus he ain't exactly cheap (10 million starting next year). Kidd is still one of the best PGs in the league and his contract only has 2 years left. I don't think there would be another team out there who would trade for Kidd, and I don't think Thorn is going to accept a deal worse then this one just to appease him (mike miller, jermaine o'neal). If the trade falls through I see Thorn working hard to make a few deals around Kidd to make it look like we are still competing this year and then trading him off in the summer for a similar return to what we have lined up right now.

I still think Gasol was worse. Memphis simply let him go for nothing. They didn't even clear bad cap space (cardinal). Getting rid of a guy who is worth what you pay him is not saving cap space it is just (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Try to win with Kidd till the offseason when they start trade talks over again.

PS: I wouldn't call this trade over by a longshot IMO. KVH can replace Stackhouse and George, Cuban would accept Stack not returning back in the end, DG can change his mind, or Stack gets replaced by Hassell + KVH and George accepts, or Hassell and KVH replace both DG & JS, a third team could be willing to help both. I think this thing will go into 3:00 PM ET next Thursday.

It's an either/or on JO/Mike Miller here. I see no way we can get both.

Anyway 1) The deal isnt dead yet and 2)If the deal aint going down we HAVE TO call up Memphis and get that Noki+Jamal for Miller deal going.

If Stack was staying in DAL, then I think it's possible Thorn would take Hassell. Hassell is probably less money than Stackhouse (even after taking the buyout into account).

Hassel's owed $13 million by the end of his contract. No way Ratner pays any amount near that.

George is not an idiot at all. It's not like teams are going to be knocking each other down to get him, the S&T leverage is all he has.

That is his salary but he has 3 years remaining on it. I know the remaining years would be dead money on our cap if we bought him out, but who would have to pay it? I know Dallas was probably going to work something out with Stackhouse, but I think we were going to end up on the hook for some of it. At best it was all going to be against our cap so the way I see it we might need to pay out a few million more to Hassel, but we would get a player over that period of time and we would have less against our cap. It would be worse for Ratner to pay but better for the team IMO.

Nope. There was an article posted earlier by a Mavs fan (i think on the stickied thread around page 13 if not in the mavs forum) that documented exactly how much would count against our cap for the remaining years after the buyout. I know for a fact though on ESPN they have Stackhouse signed for 3 more years.

The effect of the article was that it was a bad deal for us originally because of the fact that we would only save 11 of Kidds 20 mil this year and then thanks to stackhouses dead money and Harris pay raise to 10 mil/year it wasn't going to save us much money long term.

Worse, if the team had bought Stack out as expected, they couldn't use his potentially expiring deal in 2009-10 to facilitate any other trades. He'd just be a contract, not contributing to the team (not that the Nets would want him), working against the team's salary cap, and outside of currying favor with Stack's agent (Jeff Schwartz, also Jason Kidd's agent), I don't really see the point.
