Up to Van Horn

Just found this on Netsdaily / Nets Daily Forum
The NBA has decided they will approve the eight-player deal between the Nets and Mavericks as long as Keith Van Horn spends at least a month with New Jersey, multiple league sources said.
Van Horn hasn't played since the 2005-06 season and it doesn't seem like he wants to get back into basketball. So if he doesn't agree to the terms, the deal could be off for good this time.

This is getting more ridicilous then everybody could ever imagine .

It's like the universe is trying to prevent this from happening...
Either way I see no reason why KVH would turn down 4 Mil because he'd rather stay at home that extra month...

A month? Stern is playing games now, if this were Boston, LA, or NY, one of his pet franchises, no one would say anything.... is there any evidence that Aaron McKie stayed with memphis past a WEEK?
This could potentially derail this deal. KVH has a family and businesses to attend to and he might very well tell thorn and cuban thanks but no thanks. KVH seems to be a bright dude who has invested his money wisely and doesn't need basketball or the couple mil being offered him to help the Nets and Mavs complete this trade.
UNBELIEVABLE. The NBA continues to be a JOKE.

Another thought...Stern could take this oppurtunity to finally screw Mark Cuban over and make this as difficult as possible. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest...

Stern would just be screwing over himself. No smart businessman would screw over one his harshest and most outspoken critics less then 2 weeks after allow a rival team do the exact same thing. Stern screwing over Cuban would lead to so much bad press for Stern that there is no way he would even think about it.

I hear what you're saying, but Stern is quite stubborn so anything he does wouldn't shock me.
If Aaron McKie has been with the Grizz for a month, then fine, but if they are just making this up on the fly, then i smell a rat.

"Let's say this," Falk concluded. "Keith is a guy of high integrity, and he has a great relationship with Mark Cuban and Rod Thorn, and he would like to help them both. But he's engaged in some other things, and he has a lot of responsibilities. Now he just has to see if it's workable before he decides what to do. And right now, I don't know what he's going to do."
This quote comes from David Falk , Keith van Horns Agent .

Its ironic that the player that force KVH out in the first place needs his help to get out himself.
kidd helped keith on his way out of nj. the place he played him career at and then kidd kicked him out. and now kidd needs keith to help him leave nj. its just funny.
If I were keith I would tell kidd to "uck off and not do this deal for him.
4 mill for a guy that made plenty in his career. This is up to, would he want to fly to the place that forced him to leave and gave him hell when he was here for 4 mill

It's just a month. Sit on the bench in a suit.
Is he such a whuss through and through? It actual matters to him that he had sad memories about his time at the Nets? How about do the Nets a favor in return for the huge contract the Nets gave him that he never played up to. He can do this one good thing for Nets fans, and the team's future.
And if he's embarrassed over something, it's not like he has to face anyone he had problems with back in his Nets day. Ratner wasn't even the owner at the time, and everyone except RJ and Frank is gone.
Man up you jerk.

Memphis is using McKie as a player/assistant coach.

Can't take a month off for his business? This is the perfect business offer -- no risk, no cost, guaranteed return.
He can do other business at the same time he's here in NJ. It's not like he's going on a African safari. He's got a cell phone. He's got blackberry. He can put his family up in Kidd's house.
If he doesn't do it, it's just a slap in the face of the fans, both organizations and the town that gave him so much.

Yeah...but I seriously doubt his business is generating 4 million $$ net in a month.... KVH will take that money and wear a suit on the bench for the month, guaranteed.

League most likely want him to remain in NJ for the rest of the season. This is clearly Cuban's screw up as he didn't bother to consult with Keith in advance.

The OP's comment was that the league only required a month.

^^ the language Joel Litvin used was "If he [Van Horn] intends to resume his career, then they can do a sign-and-trade with him."
The code word here is "intends to resume." It does not look like he wants to resume his BB career. Also, Keith did not play last season, something the league said weighs in.

Does McKie intend to presume his career in Memphis ?
Doesn't seem like he would .
