New Jersey: The Rebuilding Period

Just trying to gauge everyone's perception on the current roster and where the team should be progressing.

Keepers:
Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic, Sean Williams, Devin Harris

Trade Bait:
Vince Carter, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Maurice Ager, Stromile Swift (expiring after next season)

Will Give Away:
Trenton Hassell

Expirings:
Keith Van Horn
DeSagana Diop
Bostjan Nachbar
Darrell Armstrong

Picks:
2008 NJ 1st Round
2008 Dallas 1st Round
2008 NJ 2nd Round

Biggest needs:
1. Dumping Carter's contract.
Would be nice to move VC, as his deal just gets worse and worse as time goes on. Could we move him in a similar deal to Kidd?

If Thorn has established that he's not moving Carter for anything less then we got for Jason (expirings and a solid young player), who would the market for VC be?

2. Draft Picks
Despite some recent dissapointments (see: Antoine Wright), Rod Thorn has had a solid draft record (see: Boone, S. Williams, M. Williams, Krstic, RJ)

3. Diop / Krstic / Boone / Williams logjam
Are we resigning Diop and Krstic?

My guess would be on us signing Krstic and having him starting along Williams, with Boone coming in off the bench.

However, do we want to possibly resign Diop and package him in a trade?

Does a Carter / M. Williams / Diop package seem inviting to anyone? Could we swing an Elton Brand / Quentin Ross deal out of that?

What are everyone's thoughts involving the new look New Jersey Nets?

give them a chance i'd say, to be honest if vince plays motivated, hes still worth the money thorn pays him, and to be honest it could be worse, u could be stuck with Rashard Lewis' Contract rofl

I say we don't make any more major moves till the offseason.

I'd hope the Nets resign Krstic. He can be resigned cheaper now since he was injured, and he's still a good part of our young core.

I agree that carter is still worth the money...almost. You cant deny his skills, only his aggressiveness.

And I still say trade RJ while he's still a borderline all star. He's maxed out on potential and then some. He will decline some also without Kidd and he'll be in his 30's before you know it. I see RJ being one of those guys where most of his game comes from his youth while carter is nifty enough to play past his prime.

Carter is only under contract for 14-15-16 isn't he ? with the team option for the 4th year.

It's not even unreasonable. Why even trade him for scraps. We're not gonna get anyone better than him for that amount of salary.

** Possibly Miami is looking to Deal Marion **

That's one person I'd consider trading VC for... especially if Harris is running the point.

Imagine Harris + RJ + Marion running the break.

RJ and one or 2 of Nenad/Boone/Mags/Bokie for Marion. Throw in a pick and cash if necessary and we're back!
