Josh Boone is overrated

Post#1 » by EFF » Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:01 pm

He's honestly just not that good. Lotta Nets fans think we found a little gem in Boone. Not so

1. His D is soft like jello
2. His rebounding ability is overrated
3. Weak hands for a big guy (Kwame-esque).
4. No moves / no footwork, only upfakes = botched layups.
5. Inadequate court awareness. In other words, he gets lost
6. Sets the weakest screens in the league
7. Awkward to place: he's like right in between PF and C. He's not as athletic as a lot of PF's. But he's also not big enough for C's. He'll either get outjumped or out muscled. So no matter what he'll just be average.

On the other hand, he tries hard and hustles to the glass. He can have a nice touch on layups. But overall, he's simply average. He's like a poor man's Varejo. He should not be getting 25+ minutes per game. MAX 20...max...

I like Boone, but he needs to improve. The kid puts forth effort, which is all i can ask

He needs to step up his play though, or else his goal of getting a higher rating in NBA Live and NBA 2K9 will go right down the toilet, like this team's season if they play defense like that again!!!!!

Your saying this after 2 bad games. Give him time without Kidd. You weren't complaining when he gave us a double double every night. I don't know how is rebounding is overrated? How can rebounding be overrated?

Excellent post. I might have to disagree with 5-6 to a very small extent.... He has a good knowledge of how to get open. He is very slippery and is always finding an open passing lane for him and the passer. Many times he's in good position to make a QUICK move and score, but he simply just doesn't have the talent to do so..or he just can't catch the ball. --But yes, he does make simple mistakes many times like not boxing out before a rebound.

6, I blame Frank on weak screens just because our offense is that predictable.

Josh needs WAY more confidence . He's afraid to get fouled and trys to avoids contact .

Before the Kidd trade i thought he had it but this trade somehow set back his confidence .

josh is a great rebounder and a solid defender.

he can't score tho, he scores on offensive rebounding opportunities, and he tries hard erry night.

good enough for me.

He needs to fix his FTs.

I see some David Lee in his game. He needs Lee's confidence.

How can Josh Boone possibly be overrated? He was the 23rd pick with the hopes of getting a big man who can rebound and block some shots. You tell me what big from that draft class would you take over Boone? I would say only Aldridge and Tyrus Thomas as definites. Millsap would be the only other player that I would consider but they match up pretty evenly. After a poor rookie season, we had absolutely nothing to look forward to. You can't tell me that Josh Boone has not exceeded your expectations this season though. He's not a top 10 PF or C nor will he ever be one in this league. Make no mistake about that. For what we were hoping from him, I think he has at the least met what we expected.

Clearly his defense needs improvement. That will come with continued experience. How can rebounding be overrated??...especially on this team? In the 35 games where he has played 20 mins or more, he has at least 8 pts and 8 rebs, 19 times. In the other 16 games, he has reached either 8 pts or 8 rebs, 10 times. He has been our most consistent and productive big. I think his hands and footwork do need improvement especially w/ all the pick and rolls we run w/ him but during the course of the season, he has shown improvement. Expect Boone to bulk up some more this off season. Remember this is only his soph. season.

My biggest thing w/ Boone is how will he continue to progress w/o Kidd. Our bigs benefited the most from Kidd w/ a ton of easy shots in the paint. How will both Boone and S. Williams score with M. Williams or Harris or DA running the point?

Overrated?!?!?!?!?
Are you kidding me if anything he's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY underatted.
A guy that's a double double waiting to happen on any given night that didnt make the Sophmore game is clearly underatted.

Tonight's game just layed the smackdown on this topic.
