What???? We need Hassel to defend the perimeter and we need Big Diop to bang inside and play defense....can't agree with this one, sorry!!!
Sean has hit the rookie wall and should get about 15 mins per game at best right now. Swift, well Frank needs to give him a shot, but that doesn't mean those two guys shouldn't play.

no no Hassell and Diop are good players but when the other team is alot more athletic than you, put in some athleticism to stop the easy drives and maybe get some energy on the O.
they're good players but Frank is horrible with subs and whatnot

Sean is too thin to guard Howard and Swift has the IQ of a bowling ball so I Doubt they get any burn. I'm fine with Diop getting playing time, he was a key player for a team who went to the finals a couple years ago...

Im not talking about Sean guarding Howard. Diop on Howard is a no brainer, but when Orl comes in with Cook and Foyle...get Sean in there.

I think that you saying Swift has the IQ of a bowling ball is just a tad bit generous, jeff!!

The only thing stupid in this thread is the bowling ball comments and the lack of interest shown for athleticism.
Athleticism = explosive movement.
Explosive movement = ablity to cover more ground in less time
Covering more ground in less time = increased defensive versatility and effectiveness in team defense.
Bill Russell showed the value of athleticism.

What makes you think he's underachieved? Given his playing time, he has been remarkably consistent and effective. He played a key role for two playoff teams in Memphis in coming off the bench and in filling in effectively for injuries to Pau Gasol and the unathletic Lorenzen Wright.
Stromile has consistently had an impact on points in the paint throughout his career, both because he has the ability to finish inside on offense and cover lots of ground and block different kinds of shots defensively.

Here's Stromile blocking an unathletic player favored by Jeff Van Gundy when both were teammates in Houston
Has Stromile 'underachieved' in New Jersey??

Athleticism my behind...Hassel should have been out there defending Hedo last night instead of Jefferson!!
But to RJ's defense, its pretty hard to defend someone when Dwight Howard demolishes you from behind with a pick and your teammate(Josh Boone) doesn't call out the screen or make the proper adjusments on d!! bad team d is what cost us last night!!

At this point he is on the team and we have to see what type of production he can give us.

I would have loved to see him playing alongside Kidd. He'd thrive with a PG of that caliber but in a halfcourt game with shoot first PG's like Harris and Marcus he'd be in the same position he was in houston a couple years back.
Anyone who can remember can tell you I was all for getting Stro a year back or so but with the emergence of Boone and SWill I feel we have no use for him, but hey i'd love for him to prove me wrong..

In Houston, Stromile totally outperformed the guy starting over him, Juwan Howard, another unathletic player.
Stromile did well in Houston when given playing time, so I don't know what you're talking about here...
Stromile was a perfect complement to Yao both offensively and defensively, as offensively he is able to punish opposing defenses for swarming Yao with his ability to attack the rim and produce points in the paint, and defensively his athleticism and shot blocking presence helped him cover ground that the slow footed Yao can't cover by himself.
On 82 games.com's posted two man units for that season, the two man unit of Yao + Swift crushed the two man unit of Yao + Juwan.
They still have the +/- stats there, you can see for yourself that Stromile outperformed Juwan.
2 man pairs for 05/06
team +/- stats - check out Swift's roland rating compared to Howrd, Wesley, Bowen, etc
EDIT - just for kicks I checked the Nets numbers on 82games.com for this season, and guess who is leading the team...??
08 nets Stromile came in and played very well as soon as he got a chance (which took a few games) ... It seems to me he's earned a shot with the Nets.
