2008 General Draft Discussion: Who to take with our picks?

Ok so I was holding off on this thread but after tonights loss I though it'd be appropriate since Losing to Memphis basically booked us for the Lottery. By looking at our remaining schedule and Atlanta's remaining schedule, I'd say we're done (barring any unforeseen events in the future)
So my question for you all is who do you like as our Lottery pick?
Edit: I changed this to the draft in general since we all just started talking about the draft in general and not just the lottery

I'll take anybody who constantly hits a jumpshot ...
Well we obviosly need a shooter unless we somehow win the lottery and take Beasly i can't see us taking a big , taking a PG would make no sense at all .

if by some crazy luck we get the first pick then Beasley... but more reasonably id take Hibbert, Mayo, Budinger or Gordan if he slips but i doubt it.. I think Budinger is the most reasonable

You never know...it may not take much to back into the playoffs...NOT HIBBERT!!! You heard it here first...he will suck.
If we get lucky, Beasley's attitude scares me (I live in KS, I've seen a lot of him) but his ridiculous talent is unbelievable. If we get him, really need to retool and get rid of some underachievers (i'm looking at you VC).

One of our priorities, as funny as it may sound, should be toughness. IMO we're one of the softest teams in the league. That's why Beasely would obviously be great. But another guy that seems reasonable to get is Tyler Smith, look him up he's really good.

If we draft another big we still need to somehow solve our shooting Problem.
What i don't like about Smith is when i looked him up .
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT :
Ballhandling
Perimeter Shot
Thats not what we need , we need someone on the wing who can shoot and take care of the ball .

If we draft Budinger we obviosly don't draft a big

and i can't see him slip to the Dallas pick .

I LOVE BEASLEY he is going to be a stud, i would trade vc and rj for him, hes a beast. I also love rose but we dont need him. The two guys i see at the about 7-10 range, which with this schedule we could get, are Anthony Randolph, and Nicholas Batum. Randolph is going to be great hes a 6 10 power forward who can handle the ball bring it up the court, shoot the three ball, block shots, and post up. Batum reminds me a lot of Rudy Gay he is a teriffic slasher and a good defensive player and also a very good shooter.

Our needs:
1. Interior scoring.
- I don't think we can address this via the draft. If there's a low-post scorer available at our spot, he will - and I guarantee this - end up being a stiff. No thanks. For now, we're going to have to rely on Nenad's recovery and the development of Boone/SWill, plus whatever we get out of Stromile Swift.
2. Interior defense/toughness.
- We are currently a soft team. We have been since the departure of Kenyon Martin. This team NEEDS a legitimate interior stopper. With the departure of Diop this summer - I like Hasheem Thabeet out of UConn as a possible replacement. A possibility in the second round could be Richard Hendrix out of Alabama... plus, it would be sick to get a New Jersey Nets "Hendrix" jersey.
3. Perimeter shooting.
- Nachbar will leave this summer, and hasn't filled this role for us regardless. Outside of the obvious options here, Eric Gordon from Indiana, OJ Mayo and a Mike Miller trade... there are some sleepers that could be available with the Dallas pick... Marcelus Kemp out of Nevada is an interesting option, but I worry about his knee injury. Others include Rick Roby out of Colorado, and my personal favorite, Mark Tyndale from my school, Temple University.

All these names sound nice but if the main problem of this team isn't fixed, it won't matter.

The one big I would consider with our Lotto pick would be JaVale McGee
Other than that I want Mayo, Batum, Gordon, Westbrook, Budinger or Tyler Smith
Our second first I would just take the best player available
In the Second Round the guys I like are Richard Roby, DeMarcus Nelson and Marcelus Kemp

we're soft because frank uses soft players. We have players capable of being physical that are unused (Diop/Sean). But he keeps going with Boone. He uses Nenad for obvious reasons but doesnt ustilize him enough. Diop will lay out a guy if he has to without regret. Sean can bother any shot, and at this point id rather have him try and foul out than not use him at all. Stro can also be a shot blocker.
If we actually used the guys on our team we'd only need a pure shooter. Nenad is adequate post offense and dtro/sean/diop are adequate to good post D.
I don't see Mayo falling to us. If Batum does, i'd take him. I also like Westbrook. Watching him at ucla, he plays rabid defense and is quick and athletic enough to get to the rim on most people. Only questionable thing about him is his jumpshot.

Good point - maybe our lack of toughness is more of a Frank thing than a personnel thing.

Totally agree with you. We had the toughest guy in the league and he never played. He got benched for giving hard fouls. Yeah some of the fouls were stupid but the guy was a beast.
