dont worry this isnt a vc bash thread, just a quick question, is he a hall of famer, id say yes, and do you think his number will be retired in a nets stadium?

On his numbers, possibly. On his accomplishments...no. His number could be retired as a Net. He's broken some records.

RIGHT NOW ? No.
This year has been a down year production wise on offense so the big question is this the start of a steep decline or is it his ankle ,etc. If it's the former I doubt he becomes a hall of famer, if it's the latter and he bounces back to several more seasons of approx. 25/5/5 then it would look good. He also has Rookie of the Year under his belt.
It's the Basketball hall of fame so a few non-NBA things help him out. One is two NCAA final four appearances and the major one is being arguably the best player on the USA team that won gold in the Sydney Olympics (he's undefeated in International competition IIRC). Being arguably the best NBA dunker in game / dunk contest of all-time might give him a few extra looks also.
What hurts him the most are lack of playoff success. He's never been past the 2nd round and that hurts big-time. Also warranted or not he has a poor reputation and that will also hurt him big-time so for VC it will have to be more of numbers game that gets him in.
edit: Also forgot, despite being 8 or whatever times All-Star he's only been an All-NBA twice (2nd team once, 3rd team once). That hurts. I thought his first season w/ the Nets should have had consideration but anyways.
Regarding the Nets...i'm not sure. He holds Nets records for most points in a single season and i'm not sure where he stands on alltime points for a Nets player. Also, this might be my bias but I consider VC first as a Raptor and because of the poor way he left there I doubt they retire his # there and I think unless he can start having good seasons w/ Nets (if he is even still in their immediate future) I don't think his # gets retired as a Net.

the only player to get his jersey retired from these past 8 years of winning basketball should be jason kidd.. VC came to the party a little too late and has been too up and down for me ... and i think him admitting to quitting on toronto will make him sweat out a bid for the bball hall of fame, but hes very popular w/the highlight reel moves he puts on so who knows.. he still can build on his pretty good resume and he needs to

I know this might bring in some Toronto Raptors posts but your assumption is wrong despite being 'fact' in this MTV media world.
This is his quote:
"In years past, no. I was fortunate to have the talent. You get spoiled when you're able to do a lot of things. You see that you don't have to work at it."
Basically he said when he was younger he relied on his otherworld athleticism and natural abilities and didn't work on his game - never did he say he quit on the Raptors.
I will say that his last year w/ Raptors due partly to VC wanting out (no doubt) and to coaching style, etc he did not seem to play as hard but I don't think it was vindictive or intentional but only that his heart was not in it anymore (and Nets fan should know how this feels w/ the Kidd era ending). That's not an excuse for that type of behavior and he did leave Toronto badly but again I didn't see any vindictive intent on his part.

ok ur right, ill give u that... ur quote that vince gave was his answer to the question of "did u always play hard", his answer being "no".. so ill give u that he didnt quit altogether, but admitting to not trying hard, then trying to sugarcoat it by saying he was so athletically gifted that he didnt have to try as hard is pretty $hitty... anyway he still has some work to do but the HOF is attainable

The HOF is a joke anyway ;=D

Vince is one of the best players to ever put on a Nets uniform but i can't see his number getting retired, the next number that will hang up there will be #5.

Carter will be a HoFer. A decade of 25/5/5/1/1, the face of the NBA in his earlier years.. and tbh I don't think he's slowed down yet.
Chances are if he's moved he'll put up numbers again.

here's a question: if he goes in, does he go in with the Raptor uni, or Nets uni?
i would think Raptors, just b/c it's where he made his name, and where he received some of his greatest accolades and had the greatest impact as a player

If make somehow makes it ( which i doubt ) he should go as a Raptor , he's just been a sidekick to Kidd here just like RJ and clearly doesn't seem to be able to take the lead now as Kidds gone.

I agree along those lines...

If he does make the HOF, i would hope he goes in wearing a Nets uni just to make the raptor fans have a stroke

Besides his numbers, he'll make it on the basis of him having been a very memorable player in the nba.

He will go in as a Raptor no doubt. Anyone who thinks he will go in as a net is just lying to themselves...

Exactly. He made his legend on the Raptors, not the Nets, unfortunately.

yea but in his final years in toronto, and now that 99% of tdot fans hate him, you really think they would hang his jersey from the rafters?

He's not a HOF player in my opinion.
