I know what you mean. As everybody probably knows by now, I'm all for giving Frank the boot. But like JJ said, I just can't root against our guys. If we're gonna tank I need to stop watching altogether.

Also, on netsdaily, they posted a blog of some guy who goes to all 30 arenas or something. There he was courtside at a nets game and wrote about how all the players ridicule Frank. Someone email that excerpt to Thorn.

LOL I was about to create an identical topic to this one.

Anyway yeah while it hurts me to admit this I have to agree, Frank's firing would be like getting a birthday present long before your birthday.
Seriously even if it goes against everything I believe in (Im very anti- tanking and always consider the play-offs as the number one goal) this latest bit of info changes the ENTIRE landscape of things.

However despite everything Im keeping my whatever happens Im fine with it approach.

I read that too. Thorn probably knows about that. They just need an excuse to say they were wrong. Not making the playoffs would be a better sale then giving him an extention then saying the team wasnt listening to him.

Hmmm...missing out on a 1st round belt beating at the hands of the Celtics, or Frank being fired and this team getting an even better draft pick to go along with Dallas'?

This is like having a better beer competition between Heineken and Miller Light!!!!

Still want the playoffs.

I'm not too concerned about missing a long-shot high lottery pick. We can still move up to a better pick by trading up. There are other, more certain, ways of getting better. We could just sign a good free agent who will contribute right away -- good FA market this year. If we make teh playoffs, our players will have better trade value.

Replacing Frank would be my only reason for being pro- 'tanking'

Wow I'm torn.

I think that making the playoffs would be great for this team with the simple reason it would help Harris gel with the rest of the pieces.

On top of this if we could somehow take the Celtics to 6 games, and then we keep basically the same team next year, and trade for a guy like Camby, Bogut or Okafur, without breaking up the new Big 3 and Boone or Krstic, it would be very confidence inspiring for next seaosn.

I do not like tanking unless you have a record like Miami or the Bucks, etc.

But I would love for Opie to get fired, and if we make the playoffs and the Celts to 6, it would be hard to.

I don't know.

Tanking is almost not an option at this point, especially after beating Atlanta. On top of this our Vets and other players have too much pride and too much on the line to tank.

Opie won't tank either, unless he is told tank or get fired.

Actually with his coaching abilities, all Thorn to do was mention his name with the word firing and it is like an unintentional insta tank. This guy doesn't perform well undre pressure. He might lose games just out of fear.

On top of this tanking with our record guarentees us nothing at this point, because there are so many teams with worse records.

Make the playoffs, lose to the Celts in 5-6 games, blame Ope, fire him.

Who you replace him with is unclear.

2 of the guys wanted are gone.

Addleman and Stan Van Gundy.

If his health was well, and he wanted I would take Rudy Tomajaonavic with open arms.

Any others suggestions to replace him?

As much as I want Opie gone, I don not want Brian Hill taking over.

Well, it will be fun to go to the Izod center and watch the team wilt like plants in summer heat at the hands of the Celtics.

If this team showed the ability to play hard or show any semblance of pride in their work for more than 1 out of every 6 games i'd be geeked up for a series against Boston, as of now i don't see this team taking more than 2 quarters in that series, nevermind a game, unless we get the kind of play we saw from Carter last night and Frank doesn't micromanage the team into the abyss, Boston is no joke. That defense they ran on Houston the other night will make Vince curl up into the fetal position  ah what the hell, bring it i say, what do we have to lose!! We are sitting pretty this summer either way you put it, and a piss poor showing will only help to show Opie the door!!!

we all know there are positives to both situations...as long we keep the talks in their respective threads I'm find with the talk either way...

fyi, I might be doing some merging/retitle this particular topic anyway...so we have a place to talk about this...

If my home team is embarassing themselves on a consistent basis, I'd rather they not make the playoffs. The Nets don't deserve to make the playoffs this year. Any team under 500 doesn't deserve to make the playoffs and it's embarassing to the game of basketball in my eyes. Even if they SOMEHOW managed to get out of the first round, they'll get torn apart in the second round anyway. I'd much rather see a team like atlanta, who at least play hard and are fun to watch, make the playoffs this year than the Nets. It's difficult for me to say this because I love my team, but there's such a huge talent gap in the NBA that underdogs rarely go anywhere (let alone win championships). At this point, I want a high draft pick and the proper pieces moved around for the draft.

I want the nets to make the playoffs. Beat The Celtics. Beat the Pistons / Cavs / Whoever. Then beat the team out of the west. There's 100% chance of that not happening if they don't make the playoffs. There's a 95% chance of that NOT happening if they do make the playoffs.

If they don't make the playoffs, there's some % chance of a top 3 pick. However, even if that does happen, what good will it do? Say we got the top pick, would it even help us in the next couple of years? Or are we better off trading picks to get better players / well-timed contracts that expire at the same time as lebron and company?

Guys we beat the Knicks for the first time in 4 tries this season. What makes you think we can do that to the Celtics 4 times?

I'd like to find out who thinks we'd even beat the Celtics for 2 quarters, nevermind a GAME, and have them pour me a cup of the same thing they're drinking!!!! I could probably run my car on it
