Dr. Martin O'Malley performed the surgery in New York, Nets president Rod Thorn said.
Carter will be on crutches for several weeks, followed by rehabilitation. He is expected to be ready for training camp.
Carter played in 76 games this past season, averaging 21.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He led the team in scoring 36 times, assists 21 times and rebounding 15 times.
The 10-year veteran was one of only three NBA players (Kobe Bryant, LeBron James) to average more than 20 points, six rebounds and five assists throughout the season.
The eight-time All-Star holds career averages of 23.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Best time to do it while there's still plenty of time to heal and be ready for the next season.

from what I've read it wasn't just bone spurs, he also had loose bodies removed from his right ankle and a debridement (removing dead tissue, etc...cleaning out the area).
He hurt his ankle in what the 5th game of the season (?) and probably did more harm than good continuing to play on it for the remainder of the season but I really think the Kidd departure and the criticism of him this season by the media really forced him to decide if he's going to step up & be a leader or fade to the shadows and he has decided to take on the leadership mantle.
The way he played down the stretch, playing even when out of the playoffs, playing injured, taking on leadership on court & in the locker room, and having his surgery right away (not on "Company Time") just points to a really good team mentality and he's doing right by the Nets organization that rewarded him last off season. Hopefully this means a good performance from the get-go next season (something he's always had problems with).
I hope he has a big poster of Magic Johnson's grinning face in his home-gym this summer.

All the best to Vince for a full recovery. Vince may not have the hops he once had but he still has a ton of talent. I'd like to see him take it inside more next season.

Guy's chill the dude had ankle surgey not open heart surgery.
The question(s) that I wan't to ask is
1)should we know the players full injury report so fans don't bag players when they put in a sub par performance?
OR
2) Should players just bite the bullet and get the necessary surgery done as soon as possible (in season if required)
THOUGHTS????
I must admit I have more respect for players who play hurt. But if your play is detrimental to the team then just get it right.

I get an email saying that I have a PM from you jac.
I am thinking E is going to make a return and wanted everyone around so we can read is first 100 page post.
Then I click on this link. Bahhhhh!!!!!!!
People here are delusional. So he is going to have his ankle scoped and then return to Slam Dunk Champion form. Please!!!!!
VC get better.......
...so we can trade your A$$ to the Suns for Barbosa and whatever (RUN, RUN, RUN), because they suck right now and that window is closing quick.

I thought having your ankle will make your hops worse, but the pain will go away. I don't know, but that's what happened to Jackie Chan. The guy's sprained his right ankle so many times, he can't jump on it. Then again, Carter's ankle hasn't been sprained or broke as many times as Chan's has.
Guys, I've come to the conclusion that E will never come back. So...it's time to for someone to step into his shoes...(SuperMan stance as everyone looks at me then laughs)
Rats...

uhm..what are you talking about? One post (EFF) said he HOPES VC starts jumping over people again. Everyone else just basically wished him well. So I have no idea where THAT rant came from...please show me in this thread where the delusional people are that said he would return to Slam Dunk Champion form ?
VC at 30+ with ankle issues will never be that guy again and expecting him to be will only lead to disappointment but Nets fans should hope for a healthy & productive VC next year.

Barbosa for VC?!
I know you hate Vince Carter more then Sam Mitchell, and Barbosa is a nice player, but man.
Hell if you're going that route, how bout VC for Ben Gordon, Drew Gooden and a pick swap.(Bulls for the 21 and our 2nd rounder)?

Shh...don't unleash the SICness (That's just genius on my part. That's so good, I'm not even going to copyright that, SIC)...
But yeah, I'll agree with vc4p. You could've came up with a better trade in your hidden VC rage, SIC.
