It sounds like DA wants to play another season, according to Netsdaily. Since we all know that he's going to be a future coach with his passion, energy, professionalism and knowledge of the game, and since some speculate that Marcus Williams will be traded this off season, AND SINCE WE ALL KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE STUCK WITH OPIE THIS COMING SEASON (with that 2 yrs remaining in his contract). Why not sign DA for another year and wait for him next year to coach our team and live with the extra year we owe Opie (as a donation =]). I know DA hasn't had a coaching experience but he has been in this League for a long time and he is like a second coach on the bench anyways. I just love this guy and i think we cannot afford to lose another good candidate llike the way we lost Eddie Jordan. He's going to be great.

I am all for resigning DA for another season at the vet min in regards he is a great mentor for the young guys, and somewhat of an inspiration for everyone.
That said he should only play very limited spot minutes, say 5-8 a game.
Sometimes he looks great, but man he looks bad sometimes. Not the answer if we trade Marcus, which I am praying we don't unless it is part of a bigger blockbuster deal.
I do not want to trade Marcus straight up for another young player at a different position. Anyway, that is not the whole point of your thread, so....

I think DA will be a very good coach, but....
If we are stuck with Opie, hell even if we fire him, I would want to bring in a time tested coach with some name recognition that has achieved and will continue to garner results.
The only way I would want DA as the head coach of this team would be if we blew it up.
I could see him being an outstanding coach of a young team that lacks experience.

I'd love to sign DA as player and then sign him as a coach when he retires however I think he'd probably wanna play for a contender and I cant really blame him.

do we honestly have any hint as to how good a coach he would be?
I mean he's great as far as energy, intensity, and that stuff goes.

but who knows what kind of strategic mind he has or even the presence he would have with the guys in garnering their respect.

If people were questioning whether we would like mark jackson on board, DA is an even bigger question mark. We have at least heard Mark jackson's input on the team during broadcasts. Until DA's toughness quote ive only seen him inaudibly cheering on the sideline.

Actually, DA was suppose to rejoin Dallas to be a player coach to eventually become an ast. coach. Now that Avery might be on his way out when they lose this series. Who knows what will happen?

Why not just give him an assistant coaching job.

I really like him the few times I got to see him play.

Player/Assistant coach would be fine.

I'm sure he can choose whichever team he wants for vets min.

a true professional...knows the game inside and out...you could see him coaching from the bench all year long...in addition to his moral support...(first one off the bench type veteran...)

Actually it should be quite the opposite.
Its not as if DA should steal many minutes from him.

vc4p, did you have a short relapse on who our coach is? I get those too when I dream of a better world.

I'd be surprised if Marcus is brought back Frank can't stand him. That and he's a ****.
