What's the deal with KVH's contract? Can he be traded?

I'm just wondering here.

It looks like he signed a deal in which this upcoming season is not guaranteed.

But does this allow the Nets to trade him, and then the team he's traded to to waive him and not pay any of his salary and not have it count against the cap?

It seems like this could be a great tool, and asset for a trade with a team in the luxury tax.

Am I wrong here?

For example, Cleveland will be over the Luxury Tax Limit next year.

They trade Damon Jones + 19th pick for KVH + 40th pick

They then cut KVH before the season starts and save $9 million

or KCH for Verajo or Palvovic

If KVH is signed for next season - guaranteed or non-guaranteed - he CAN be traded. I would think Mr Thorn would have demanded the non-guaranteed year so that he could trade KVH to a team that wants salary relief.

I fully expect KVH to be dealt.

Nets finances have us buying him out already. However, he hasn't filled those retirment papers so I think we could sign him again and send him elsewhere like what Dallas did.

Van Horn is a very lucky man.

Who's right here? Does he have a non-Guaranteed deal?

If he does, there is no buyout necessary
