Minnesota gives:

Rashad McCants, #31, #34, Boston's 2009 1st round pick

Why for NJ: You get rid of two unproductive guys for one productive guy who has proven he can score in this league. The trade also gives you some roster flexibility for any future trades while at the same time gets you younger and possibly, maybe, eventually better at the 2-guard spot. Additionally, the picks could be used as pot sweeteners and/or as cap-friendly, non-guaranteed contracts for next year. You also shave about 300k in salary off your books for next year.

Why for MN: Although it might take a little less to get the #15 from Phoenix, having the #10 pick would enable us to get a guy like Augustin if we don't have a shot at Rose or a big guy like Love or McGee or whomever if we do. At the same time, we open up minutes at a log-jammed spot and move a guy who seems to be on the outs with the coach whom (fans, anyway) would rather get rid of but can't. Both contracts we'd be taking on would expire next season so we're really not hurt from a cap standpoint either.

Even if Marcus and Ager weren't in the deal, I still wouldn't do it. I'm not high on McCants. And don't sugarcoat the picks. It's the last pick of the first round and two second rounders. After all that, I'm not high on moving the possibility of a Top 10 pick for any of that.

I would definitely do this if instead of the 10th overall pick, we give you guys the 21st. McCants could be that offensive weapon off the bench, but I doubt Minny does this with the 21st substituted with the 10th.

Suppose we also send the Miami pick (Top 10 protected next year, then top 6, then unprotected after that)?

I like McCants, but he's not worth the #10 pick, which is what this deal truly comes down to IMO.

I think the Nets can go a bunch of different ways right now, so I think they could put the #10 in play. However, teams tend to love their young talent, often seeing more of their "potential" than their reality, so McCants and maybe even Marcus Williams for some Nets fans might be tough to swap in a deal where both teams feel satisfied. Remember, McCants is a lottery pick who was finally only starting to get healthy at the end of this season, and was #2 on the team i nscoring off the bench. However, McCants makes mental errors and he might be too shot-oriented to play with Carter and Jefferson.

That said, a NJN-MIN swap, or more likely, a trade that the Nets make with a third team that MIN facilitates is something that could work for all three. It would not be surprising to see the Nets move Carter or Richard Jefferson this off-season if they can get the right deal, and MIN could use our expirings or picks to serve as a third team to accomodate this trade. They have several young big men as well, since they'll try to re-sign Krstic and Diop (if their front office is to be believed), they have Stromile Swift on board for another year, and they also have Sean Williams and Josh Boone, who has had some 15+ rebound games. The Wolves could help a big trade by making several pieces available that might be of interest to the Nets or a third team.

I would do that if they included Corey Brewer. Personally we got stuck in a horrible draft class so I'd rather go with the proven talent that could easily replace Carter or Jefferson than wasting it on DeAndre Jordan.

In fact, i think we're close to getting melo or camby with those two assets. throw in RJ and we might even get both. so pass.
