acquiring more young talent (NJ-POR pick-swap)

Post#1 » by shamelessblazer » Fri May 23, 2008 7:41 pm

Portland fan here, we're in the rare position of too many guys to develop and not enough minutes, especially when you add Oden and Fernandez to the mix next year. This in all likelihood means that Jack (who gets all the backup PG and SG minutes) has to go if we want Rudy to get time and one of Outlaw, Webster, or Frye has to go.

While Jack had a disappointing season he was still a fairly solid combo guard off the bench who played aggressive whenever he came in, and he is still young. But he is very competitive and occasionally steps up in the clutch.

Outlaw on the other hand had a fantastic season of growth learning to play one on one very well and proving that when his shot was on, he was nearly unstoppable with his high release point and freak athleticism. He also developed a reputation for playing well in the clutch, even hitting three game winners this year. However, he did thrive more in isolation as opposed to Webster and Frye who may fit better for us in complimentary roles as shooters.

The reality is that we're going to have to clear out and consolidate some of our guys to develop the rest and both of these guys were strongly rumored to have interest from NJ during those whole JKidd talks.

So my question is what would you guys think of a deal for draft positioning for Jack and Outlaw as pieces of your rebuilding with young talent on cheap/short contracts.

I saw Swift was an expiring deal and thought of this:

Jack, Outlaw, #13, #36
for
Swift, #10, #21

This is a very possible trade but Im leaning to say no this is such a deep draft but there is a very big drop in talent after the 11th pick.

I apologize for the OP. He is a ballboy that has gotten lost and needs to return to the Portland board for a timeout. No way in hell would Portland offer Outlaw alone for the 10 and 21. Add in they are giving away two picks and Jack for a player they do not need, no, just no. Sorry if he upset your board. Outlaw has far more value in Portland.

As much as I like Jack too, it'd be pointless for us to take him. You guys can find a much better partner.

The deal just made no sense to begin with. Why would you want to trade up from 13 to 10? You could take Jordan...because I'm gonna kill myself if we blow a pick on him. For your team needs, you can get exactly what you need at #13 if you're looking to bring your average team age down to 24.
