1 - Miami has never stated they didn't want Beasly. They just want a star back if they're not picking him. Even then, they'd probably take this deal as it's clear robbery.
2 - We are a middle of the road team on the brink of rebuilding. Getting Beasly won't change that no matter how great of a college player he is. We trade five first rounders, this deal will hurt us until 2012. You can't trade consecutive 1st rounders so that would be two this year, two in 2010 (We have the Dallas pick), and one in 2012. From where we would supposed to be picking by then even if we were to do this crazy trade, I'd want those picks.

I'm not trading 5 first round picks to move up 8 spots. Dallas's pick if they don't get their act together honestly could potentially be a lottery pick in 2010.

But what someone said too...they're looking for vet talent/leadership. I think RJ would actually play really well in Miami. The thing is they want a solid player, but they also want to keep cap room for the 2010 offseason so I don't actually know the direction they want to go. Plus if we threw RJ/#10/#21 at them, what players on their roster would even interest us to match salaries + #2. Face it, unless we bring in a 3rd team, Miami really isn't that good oa trade partner with us unless they want our expirings/picks Stro/Hassel/KVH/#10/#21 for like #2/their garbage. I just don't see something like that happening. Building around a nuclues of Wade/RJ/Marion with potentially DJ Augustine at #10 and Speights at #21 if he falls that far would make their starting 5 pretty lethal in my opinion. It just comes down to what we'd get in return.

Euchus had a post with a good trade scenario. That got me thinking. What if we offer RJ, Mwill S&T Nenad or whatever you need to do make it work to Mia for the #2 pick. Mia sends Banks, Blount and our #10 to Indiana. Indiana sends JO to us

SG - Carter or # 21 Chase Buddinger
SF - #21 Pick Bill Walker or Carter
PF - Beasley
C- O'neal

This is a framework not the dead on details. With JO contract this allow you to still be in the running for LBJ when the time comes.

Can't package other players with a S&T guy. Krstic can be in the deal.

If that trade happened, I would look for the Nets to sign a vet like Ricky Davis. I know he's a complete nutjob but I personally love the guy and he actually a) is a good defender and b) is lethal from the outside.

Questionable. He gambles a bit too much and is somewhat of a chemistry killer. You don't win playoff games with Ricky Davis.

If we can't get Pietrus for the MLE, I'm running out of ideas for who I would feel comfortable with. Look at the teams Ricky has been on. No offense he hasn't really have positive vet leadership a lot in his career. I think he's worth a shot if we can't get anyone better. Offer him a 1 year deal for a price both him and us like and make him prove to the team he is not a cancer ala magloire style. Magloire proved he's not a chemistry killer, he just couldn't ball on our team.

We don't have an MLE. We're under the cap. The problem is that we're RIGHT UNDER the cap.

Barring something unforseen happening, the Nets will not be under the cap when free agency starts. That total salary listed on Shamsports does not account for the cap hold on Krstic (which is nearly $5.7 million) or the price on the two first round draft picks.

How's Krstic's cap hold at $5.7 million? Everywhere I've looked, he's been listed at around $2.7 million.

The $2.7 million is what Krstic is paid for 08/09 if he signs the one-year tender instead of getting a long term contract. Until he is signed however, he will count against the cap at $5.7 million.

Then you are right. Amazing we're paying over the cap money for a team that still might not make playoffs next year. I don't count on us signing Pietrus when other teams that are better or have a better location that are over the cap could just sign him outright to their MLE.

To be fair, if you assume the Nets waive KVH, have all 3 picks on the roster and let Krstic sign for his tender offer (rather than extend him), you're probably looking at a payroll in the bottom third of the league.

Put yourself in Ratner's shoes and take a look at the team after the Kidd trade. Do you believe he should be paying over the cap money on this team when he's got Brooklyn coming?

I'm personally not touching the lux tax with a 50' pole until we move to Brooklyn unless we can land a guy who will at least make us a top 5 team in the NBA. I don't see that happening this offseason though. We can make some moves to become very competitive without pushing the lux tax, but I don't see anything on the horizon that is gonna bring us a ring at least in terms of next season.
