Basically Im gonna repeat what I said last summer we have a great chance with this guy and it seems that he's back to 100% so if we can get him without touching Vince and (now instead of Kidd) Harris and (preferably) RJ we should do it ASAP.

IF he's really serious about winning and willing to opt out to take a paycut in a S&T like indicated ( who in the world needs 20 million per year anyway ? ) i'm all for it .
In a trade hmm his contract is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO big . Wouldn't give up much and i don't see Ratner going really deep in luxury tax.

wow if he would take a paycut
and we could keep VC and RJ along with JO
you've got yourself a contender.

I HIGHLY doubt he'd take a pay cut for almost anyone. Unless he wants out of Indy and wants to play for 1 team only and doesn't want to kill their cap for the next 2 years, that is the only time he'd opt out in my opinion. I personally don't care who you are, nobody opts out of $43 million over the next 3 years.
However for sake of argument and dreams, what's the max we could offer him? I actually think a guy like him would really help Sean Williams development more than any other big on our roster.

Assuming we add Swift , KvH , Hassel as our 3 biggest short contracts that would make around 14 Million Dollar then you can add some rookie salary like Mwill or Ager or something. ~15 Million per is still alot it's not like he'll be broke when he accepts that .

Devin Harris PG
Vince Carter SG
Richard Jefferson SF
Jermaine O' Neal PF
Nenad Kristic C (assuming hes not part of the package)
now thats a lineup that would kick some azz in any conference...

I agree I would love that line up, problem is if we got JO without giving up RJ, you can basically kiss Krstic goodbye after next season. You're talking about having 85% of your cap space locked up with 3 players (JO, VC, RJ) for the next 2 seasons even with him in a S&T to us for cheaper.

Yeah right. Be prepared to lose at least one of VC, RJ, or Curly.

I wonder if J.O would take a contract like lets say 5 year 75 Million ( maybe more dunno how much the Nets could possible offer ) with 2 years fully guaranteed and everytime he manages to play lets say 65 games a season another year becomes fully guaranteed.

the thing is losing RJ or VC and gaining JO still does not make us contenders
it just leaves us around the same part, so the only way i see this deal happening is if we get him to take a paycut.

Pacers would give up JO for
Swift
KvH contract
Ager
Hassell
Marcus Williams
#21
Future protected 1st
and most importantly a S-A-T Diop
for
JO
There is a trade without VC, RJ, DH.

If you want to give IND #10 that would be nice too.

You can't package players in a S&T so Diop could not be included. Honestly, without Diop for argument sake because he can't be involved, I don't really have a problem with that deal. We're essentially only giving up Marcus Williams, #21 and probably a lottery protected 2010 1st rounder.
Now the only problem would be that we would be in absolute Cap Hell for 2 seasons, unless O'Neal opts out and this was a Sign-and-Trade deal. Still, he'd command something like 4 years, 60 million probably. When considering this baggage that comes with JO, Nets are gonna pass unless RJ is involved in the deal no ifs/ands/buts.

Right now we're far enough under the Lux Tax (~20 Million) to trade for J.O and use you MLE and LLE and still be under the Lux Tax or just slightly over even if we resign Nenad when his contract his reasonable.
It's not that bad.

Yeah but that's the problem, if RJ isn't involved, we're basically locking up like 50 million between JO, RJ and Vince. I think we're probably hope Nenad takes the qualifying offer and pray that he has just an OK year so we may be able to afford him when he becomes an unrestricted. still that's like 85% of our cap between 3 guys, then Nenad and DH take up the rest of the cap. We still have 8 roster spots. 3 rookies will be there so that brings it down to 5. Depending on who we traded and all, we're gonna be mad close to the lux tax and honestly, it makes me weary. I don't see us being able to build a stable bench unless we get some solid vets willing to take a vet minimum thanks to the great starting 5.
I just think there is NO WAY we can acquire JO without giving up RJ.

yea but even if we give up rj for jo... if jo returns to form if gives us a better chance of winning because rj and vince will never work together along with the fact that Jo has only 2 years left on his contract compared to rj's 4

I was just making a point about the problems our front office would run into because I was under the impression the growing trend on this thread was to try to get JO without giving up RJ. As much as that'd make our starting 5 lethal, as a GM I'd be sweating bullets trying to figure out how to make a decent bench without hitting the lux tax.
If we trade RJ for him, my points are pretty much moot.
