The JKidd era is over.

Gone are the likes of Kenyon Martin, Kerry Kittles, Lucious Harris, Aaron Williams and Todd Macculough. And with the pending trade of RJ, it signifies the last piece and the end of the Nets championship run under the direction of Jason Kidd.

Clearly, we're trying to be competitive while making an aim for that elusive 2010 free agent class which consists of Lebron, Wade and Chris Bosh. We're doing this while bringing in interesting and new players namely Yi Jianlian, as well as our draft picks in this year's draft.

I don't know about the rest of the guys here but I'm liking this move. Rebuilding on the fly. Anybody else like this?

I'll miss the JKidd Nets. But I'm looking forward to the future.

undecided...I understand the perspective on this trade...just not 100% sure I like this...

RJ was my fav and I doubt I will ever like this trade. Im not very high on Yi.

I'm glad to see that the rebuilding period has started in earnest.

While I will always miss the finals era teams, we realistically should have done this a lot sooner.

Let's hope that Thorn and Kiki can continue their track record of impressive rebuilds as in NJ and Denver.

As most know by now, I have been in favor of a full rebuild. I love the direction this trade sends us in. This gives the Nets a top PF prospect to go with Boone and Swill (I'd still consider taking Love early btw, just to make sure we have at least one big man that really develops) which IMO is vital. I can't remember the last team that won anything without an all-star PF/C.

Carter, Harris, Yi, Swill, and Boone (counts about 6 mil as a FA) combine to count 39 million against the cap in the summer of 2010. That is far enough under the cap to offer a max contract. You do have to account for the 5 1st round draft picks the Nets would have between now and then however. Adding about 10 million more for that puts the Nets at 49 million for that summer with 10, young aside from Carter, guys under contract. This makes them big players in that free agency whether Carter is moved or not.

Re-signing Carter signaled the end of RJ, I think. Having both RJ and Vince without JKidd was redundant. It seems like the Nets are in rebuilding mode and RJ's contract was getting in the way.

That plus the thinking that Yi would entice the heavy Chinese population in NY into watching Nets games must be a major breaking point that this deal fell through. After all, in the end, it's still about the money right?

Devin harris and Yi will be the future

If Yi turns into Dirk like a lot of critics think, this honestly would be a great trade. He's got 2 years to develop before summer 2010. Hopefully our young guys can progress enough to entire a all-star vet to come play here that summer.

Well, if it's any consolation, I'm not happy about it. As a fan, it's hard to see your team announce or go through rebuilding plans with the impending losses to rebuild through high draft picks and cap space. In the end though, we do need to realize this team in its situation needed to take a step back to move forward.

Really with this move Thorn basically decided to build a team around a dream that Lebron will decide to come here just cause he's in cahotz with Jay-Z.
RJ was my favourite Net and Yi has soft bust written all over him.

Do I see a case of holding onto RJ for sentimental reasons among the people opposed to the trade? I mean, I loved RJ as a player on this team but I think it was time to admit that the RJ-VC tandem wasn't working.

But again, even if we don't get Lebron, 2010 will have a ton of big names in the free agent market. Wade, Bosh and Stoudemire just to name a few. Nets are actually playing this smart. Do you honestly think a trio of Harris-RJ-VC will make noise next year? It was time to let go of the past and look into the future.

so we look to the future...Dakidd, I agree, RJ and VC was not working, there is no two ways around that....

you have to admit, this trade, though from certain angles may look good and from others may not...I wont deny we're really setting up ourselves for down the road...

as for me, I have never really liked this avenue, though we're already marketing the crap our of Yi (for now) and banking on the available cap space to sign that major baller...

as stated by the wise men above (and I thank them for pushing this logic we can all forget)...I will take their perspectives and say we're taking one step back to hopefully take 2 steps forward...enetric would of wanted it this way...

The Nets should be barely over the cap so resigning guys like Krstic and Boki shouldn't put them over the luxury tax!

So with the Nets trading for Yi and drafting Brook Lopez how available is Sean Williams?

^I'd say not really available at all. The Nets are obviously making a youth movement and there is nothing that any team will give up that would be worth giving up a 21 year old, athletic, shot-blocking PF who will be on his rookie contract through the 2010/11 season.

It's not that he's untouchable, just that the Nets wouldn't be getting real value in trading him. IMO Krstic, Swift and perhaps Boone are the guys available.

I was more intrigued now with what happens to Nenad. We have like 20 front court guys now. Yi, Lopez, Anderson, Stro, S-Will, Boone, Krstic. Obviously we'll probably try to move Stro in the offseason, but I really think we're gonna look for a S&T for Krstic now as well. Yi and Anderson basically do the same stuff he does anyway. I love Nenad but it's kinda pointless to have him on the roster now.
