Who Starts at SF?!?

With the draft almost done, and one major deal going down for the Nets, the question now is: Who starts at SF?

Currently, our roster breakdown is such:

PG - Harris, Williams
SG - Carter, Ager, Hassell
SF - Simmons
PF - Yi, Williams, Anderson
C - Lopez, Boone

I think Krstic is pretty much safe to come back for the qualifying offer. No one will offer him more than that, and the team has invested time in him that it is foolish to give up on him now. Diop in my opinion is gone. I think Yi, Sean, Boone, Lopez, Anderson and Nenad will round up our big rotation (which btw is a mess, so I think one of these guys, most likely Sean or Boone, will be likely to go, possibly along with Marcus).

Simmons, when healthy, is a very solid player who can defend and shoot the ball (something we've been looking for awhile now), but the question is his health. Still, he's the only SF in the roster, and for a team that appears to be rebuilding, I don't think really fit the plan for the Nets as far as developing the young guys.

Kiki compared Yi to Dirk, so I don't think he's a candidate to be a SF for this team. Could Vince possibly see a move to SF to allow a Williams/Harris backcourt? Or could another deal be made to bring in a SG or a SF to bolster the perimeter?

Honestly...I have no idea. There are a number scenarios if we have the same team now by season's start.

- Bob Simmons at the 3 (even with his health unknown)
- Hassell at the 3
- VC at the 3, with Harris and Marcus at the 1 (Not counting on this one)

Either way, I'm really disappointed on the way we drafted this year.

Think we just drafted either our starting SG or SF in CDR =)

I'm ecstatic we got CDR.... especially at 40!!!

I wanted him at 21. I honestly see him as a guy that can become not just a starter but a near 20ppg scorer. This makes up for any misgivings I have about the Ryan Anderson pick.

Harris/CDR/VC/Boone/Lopez -- I think that'll be our starting 5, if our roster stays intact. VC moves over to SF, I personally think he's better overall there. Trade Williams + a big for a proven backup PG. Re-sign Nachbar.

The offseason is just starting, it's not time to panic yet.

Whether he could play it well and consistently is a longshot in my opinion.

Yes, but Boki's natural position was the 3. As I said in one of the other draft threads, on defense, I don't think he could keep up with many NBA 3s or 4s and on offense, I don't think his post skills are NBA refined enough and it'll be much harder for him to find and create his shot. That and Donte Greene and Darrell Arthur were still there for the taking.

Haha, will you just let me vent, jj? I'm sorry, man. It was just far and away from my perfect draft, but give me a day or two. I'll refrain from posting after tonight for a day or two to keep my complaints to myself. :D

on topic here, I love Simmons starting at SF...I really have my fingers crossed that he IS healthy and can play consistently healthy...we all know how it sucks watching a guy get significant minutes when you know he is consistently playing hurt...IMO, it was a gamble, partially why I'm not that high on the trade...maybe the Nets know more about his health than we do...hopefully they do...and Simmons returns to old form...05-06 for LAC he scored 16pts in 37 min shooting 46% fgs and 43% from 3...06-07 for Mil he drop 13pts a game in 33min while shooting 45% fgs and 42% from 3...the guy can play...

its all good Rich ...vent away...I already said somewhere if you search my posts, I would of taken both Donte or Darrerll...there was a third...but I honestly thought we werent passing up Arthur...so I do agree...I'm just kind of over it...looking at what this kid did...not realizing his numbers...obvioulsy its college but it looks like he is a better shooter than a lot of guys we've seen on the Nets, where he might be playing the same role (ala Wright/Boki...)...I'm looking forward to us stretching the floor, when we actually can...

BS, Yi never played SF for the bucks. He doesn't have the handle.

Guys,

shouldn't we wait to see what Thorn does with the remaining assets we have to trade off before worrying about this? This roster is far from done

I say either throw MLE money at Pietrus (how much would that hurt our cap space I wonder)

Or try to package Stro/others to GSW for Harrington (10million expiring in 2010)

Both of those moves keeps us competitive and still in line for the free agency of 2010.
